Stable Q-switched pulses were obtained for input pump powers from 188 to 343 mW. At an input pump power of 343 mW, stable Q-switched pulses with a repetition rate of 73.3 kHz, pulse energy of 50.9 nJ, and pulse duration of 3.5 μs were obtained. This novel modulation mechanism can be used to obtain Q-switched all-fiber lasers at any wavelengths, where the transmission of the SNCFS fiber device increases with the increased laser power density.

The study focuses on the C-band region and does not explore other wavelength regions. The performance is compared with earlier published work which used MMF as a SA for Er/Yb co-doped fiber laser, indicating potential areas for optimization in terms of pulse duration and repetition rate.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The modulation device is fabricated by incorporating a small piece of large diameter coreless fiber (NCF) between two SMFs with 0 dB insertion loss.

The SA (SNCFS) MMI device is fabricated by splicing 10 cm of NCF between two commercial SMFs. The output spectrum is measured with an optical spectrum analyzer. The output pulses train are monitored using a photodetector connected to an oscilloscope.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The linear transmission of the proposed MMI device is experimentally investigated using an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) source.
