研究目的
To evaluate CO2 laser plus TCA 50% versus CO2 laser alone for treatment of CL.
研究成果
Combination therapy of continuous CO2 laser with TCA 50% is more effective than CO2 laser alone or TCA 50% alone in the treatment of cutaneous Leishmaniasis. Additionally, combination therapy accelerates the healing process without any serious side effects.
研究不足
The study was limited to a small number of patients (6 cases). A well-designed clinical trial using a higher number of patients is needed to confirm the potential benefits of this method.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study was performed on 6 patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis. The diagnosis was confirmed by clinical appearance and direct smear. Exclusion criteria included chronic diseases, impaired wound healing, and others.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis in St Al Zahra Hospital, Isfahan, Iran, during 2015-
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
20 CO2 laser (ALMA [CAL USA]), trichloroacetic acid (TCA) 50% (Merck), digital Canon Camera, DS126151, 400D, Japan.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
CO2 laser was applied with specific parameters, followed by TCA 50% application 2 weeks after laser therapy up to three times.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Response to treatment was assessed by 2 blinded dermatologists and patients' satisfaction.
