研究目的
To evaluate the efficacy of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) in the treatment of chronic periodontitis.
研究成果
Nonsurgical periodontal therapy of chronic periodontitis using PDT and LLLT as an adjunct to SRP was significantly more effective than SRP alone in reducing probing depth, clinical attachment level, Gingival Index, and bacterial counts of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans at all follow-up visits.
研究不足
Fixed reference points for measuring clinical attachment level could have improved accuracy. The study used a single application of laser therapy; repeated applications might have enhanced results. Manual probing pressure variations could have affected measurements. Different anatomic locations were not analyzed separately.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A split-mouth, randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted to compare the efficacy of SRP alone, SRP with PDT, and SRP with LLLT in treating chronic periodontitis.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Thirty patients with generalized moderate to severe chronic periodontitis were selected. Subgingival plaque samples were collected from sites with probing depth ≥ 5 mm.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
A GaAIAs diode laser (Picasso, AMD Lasers) was used for LLLT and PDT. Indocyanine green (ICG) was used as the photosensitizer for PDT.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Patients received full-mouth supragingival scaling followed by subgingival SRP. Test groups received additional PDT or LLLT. Clinical parameters and bacterial counts were assessed at baseline and follow-up visits.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS, version 20. Intragroup and intergroup comparisons were made using repeated measure analysis of variance and Greenhouse-Geisser test, respectively.
