研究目的
To monitor the course of revascularization in free skin grafts overlying modified Hughes tarsoconjunctival flaps, using laser-based techniques.
研究成果
Free full-thickness skin grafts overlying modified Hughes tarsoconjunctival flaps for reconstruction of lower eyelid defects exhibited 50% perfusion after 3 weeks and full perfusion after 8 weeks. Normal vascular reactivity was not attained after 16 weeks, and further studies are required to determine whether such grafts ever recover full vascular reactivity. The skin grafts survived and were revascularized despite the authors’ recent findings indicating that the flap pedicle does not supply blood to a tarsoconjunctival graft in the modified Hughes procedure.
研究不足
The measurements were not made weekly, but only at 1, 3, 8, and 16 weeks postoperatively, and the skin graft may thus have been fully revascularized earlier than 8 weeks. A 1- or 2-year follow up would be necessary to determine whether the skin graft completely regains it vascular function.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study involved monitoring blood perfusion and vascular reactivity in free skin grafts overlying modified Hughes tarsoconjunctival flaps using laser speckle contrast imaging and laser Doppler velocimetry.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Nine patients with diagnosed basal cell carcinoma in the lower eyelid requiring excision of more than 60% of the lower eyelid were included.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Laser speckle contrast imaging (PeriCam PSI NR System, Perimed, Stockholm, Sweden) and laser Doppler velocimetry (Periflux 5000; Perimed, J?rf?lla, Sweden) were used.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Measurements were made at the time of surgery (baseline) and at 1, 3, 8, and 16 weeks postoperatively.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Perfusion is expressed in perfusion unit. The results of the laser speckle contrast imaging measurements are given as percentages. Statistical analysis was performed using Friedman test with Dunn multiple comparison test.
