研究目的
To present the challenges in the development of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical systems based on few-mode fibers, focusing on gain flattening filters and gain calculation correction.
研究成果
Significant advances in FM-EDFA design for FMF-based optical systems have been made, enabling the development of amplifiers with low DMG and moderate gain levels. The study highlights the importance of developing new components, such as dynamic filters with independent profiles for each mode, to achieve FM-EDFAs with costs and performance similar to those of EDFAs for single-mode fibers-based systems.
研究不足
The study acknowledges the accumulation of DMG and DSG along the optical link as a limiting factor for transmission distance. It suggests the need for very low DMG and DSG (< 1 dB) for long-haul links, which requires complex fiber designs and dynamic gain flattening filters.
