The study demonstrated that the geometry, microstructure, hardness, and deposition efficiency of laser-deposited H13 (AISI) steel are dependent on LENS technological parameters. The best efficiency was approximately 18%, with hardness values ranging from 500 to 800 HV. The findings suggest that with proper optimization, the LENS method can be used for successful repairs with desired properties without the need for subsequent heat treatment.

The deposition efficiency was found to be surprisingly low, between 0.07 and 0.18, which may not meet the price criteria for a repair process. The process is very susceptible to parameter changes, making it difficult to achieve high efficiency during freeform fabrication.
