研究目的
To demonstrate the use of a multimodal ion source for laser desorption (LD) and low-temperature plasma (LTP) post-ionisation for the mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) of thin-layer chromatography (TLC) plates, enabling the separation and analysis of complex mixtures such as methylxanthines from coffee, tea, and cocoa preparations.
研究成果
The multimodal laser desorption/ low-temperature plasma ionisation (LD-LTP) source facilitated the direct detection of compounds from TLC plates. The system, based on a non-proprietary community development kit, is competitive with commercial platforms and allows for the cost-efficient adaption and further development by the community.
研究不足
The main difficulty for MSI is the release of compounds from the TLC plates. The system's performance is dependent on the application of an activated carbon matrix for efficient desorption.
