研究目的
To evaluate tumor neoangiogenesis through pCLE imaging in locally advanced gastric and rectal cancer patients, before and after neoadjuvant radio-chemotherapy (RT/CT).
研究成果
The pCLE technique is suitable for evaluating alterations in intratumoral microvasculature and reveals a functional improvement of vasculature in post-therapy rectal cancer patients, potentially identifying responders to therapy.
研究不足
The study may be limited by the sample size and the potential presence of fibrosis in gastric cancer patients affecting the evaluation of vascular morphology changes.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study used pCLE imaging to evaluate intratumoral vascularization and blood flow efficiency in patients with rectal and gastric cancers before and after RT/CT treatment.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
74 consecutive patients with Rectal Cancer and 28 consecutive patients with Gastric Cancer were selected.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
pCLE-GastroFlex UHD probe (Mauna Kea Technologies) and i.v. fluorescein infusion were used.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Patients underwent endoscopy with pCLE before and after RT/CT treatment. Neoangiogenesis was evaluated according to the Cannizzaro-Spessotto (CS) scale.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The CS scores were compared pre- and post-treatment to evaluate changes in vascular architecture.
