To present and fabricate an E-band digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) with effective tuning bank in 40 nm CMOS technology, improving the tradeoff relationship among tuning range, circuit complexity and frequency resolution.

The E-band DCO with effective tuning bank achieves a high frequency resolution of 2.21 MHz without increasing circuit complexity and decreasing oscillation frequency. It demonstrates good phase noise and compact area, with a FoMA of ?185.1 dBc/Hz.

The design and implementation of the DCO are constrained by the tradeoff among tuning range, circuit complexity, and frequency resolution. The coupling coefficient of the transformer and the technology library's high capacitance of the capacitors also pose challenges.
