研究目的
Investigating the effects of solar irradiance on amorphous silicon solar cells in variable underwater environments to understand the potential for underwater solar energy harvesting.
研究成果
The encapsulation with PDMS improved the power output of Solar cells in the amorphous silicon Solar cell by 2.79%. The I-V and P-V curves of the amorphous silicon Solar cell decreased linearly with respect to the depth of the water in all the four water environments. The study shows the potential for Solar PV technology in underwater monitoring sensors or devices and various other commercial and defence applications with modern-day power electronics.
研究不足
The study is limited to shallow water depths up to 0.2 m and does not explore the effects of turbulence or temperature variations on the Solar cell's performance underwater.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
An experimental set-up was designed to create an underwater environment for the Solar cell with a power screw mechanism using CATIA software. The fabrication was done using PMMA. The Solar cell was encapsulated with PDMS for protection underwater. Characterization was carried out using a Solar simulator.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
The study used amorphous silicon Solar cells and measured solar radiation underwater using an underwater pyranometer sensor. Different water environments (DI water, seawater, artificial seawater, lake water) were characterized.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Solar Simulator SS50AAA (Class AAA), underwater pyranometer (PYR) sensor, amorphous silicon Solar cell AM5904, B2912A Precision Source/Measure Unit, Jasco V-650 UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Adwa 8000 pH/mV/EC/TDS/Temperature Bench Meter, PDMS (Slygard 184 silicone elastomer).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The Solar radiation underwater was measured, and the performance of amorphous Silicon solar cells was analysed under various water conditions. The encapsulation process of the Solar cell with PDMS was detailed.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The characteristics of the Solar cell, such as the I-V and P-V curves, were obtained and analysed. The decrease in Solar radiation and its effects on the Solar cell's performance were studied.
