This review provides an update on recent advances in the development Ir(III) complexes and their applications in nondoped PHOLEDs fabricated by both vacuum deposition and solution-processed approaches.

The review systematically summarizes the latest advances in phosphorescent Ir(III) complexes with various colors for nondoped PHOLEDs fabricated by vacuum deposition and solution-processable approaches. The design principles, photophysical and electrochemical behaviors, and OLED performances are presented, accompanied by the specific focus on the relationships of molecule structure and OLED performance.

The worse luminescence quenching and intermolecular interaction in nondoped devices are major problems to be faced with. Therefore, fine molecular design requires to reduce concentration quenching and intermolecular interaction for efficient nondoped PHOLEDs.
