研究目的
To propose and experimentally demonstrate volumetric light-shaping polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films for mini-LED backlit liquid crystal displays (LCDs), aiming to achieve angle-selective scattering properties for tailoring the angular intensity distribution of light.
研究成果
The proposed volumetric light-shaping PDLC films can effectively tailor the angular intensity distribution of light from Lambertian-like to batwing-like, potentially reducing the number of LEDs or the backlight thickness in mini-LED backlit LCDs. The films show large design freedom and can be compact and registration-free.
研究不足
The initial PDLC films showed weak angular selectivity due to imperfect alignment. The simulation model is simplified and does not account for all real-case scenarios like the inclusion of brightness enhancement films (BEFs) and back reflectors.
