研究目的
To overview the existing technology development and discuss the challenges and possible solutions for enabling photonic-integrated multiwavelength laser arrays (MWLAs).
研究成果
MWLAs of different specifications will eventually be needed for future photonic systems using large-scale photonic integrated circuits. The roadmap of future technology development of MWLAs may include large-scale integration of MWLAs with other photonics and electronics using the hybrid integration technology and semiconductor foundry services; development of wavelength programmable laser arrays (WPLAs) for a large channel count and/or tight channel spacing; and development of nano-laser based MWLA to reduce energy consumption.
研究不足
The number of laser wavelengths in a MWLA is limited by the array yield and the bandwidth of gain material. The channel spacing is limited by individual laser wavelength fluctuation, which is typically above 0.2 nm for the reported MWLAs. Thermal crosstalk can be a critical issue for MWLAs.
