研究目的
The distribution of Time and Frequency (T/F) reference signals over fibre is nowadays the best technique both for achievable performances and for a resilient transfer, even on long hauls, e.g. thousands of kilometres.
研究成果
The implementation of a European fibre Network for T/F is advancing, offering a new platform for Time and Frequency distribution, both at an academic and industrial level. The possibility of comparing remote optical clocks over different continents is no longer a remote issue, and recent achievements demonstrate that submarine cables can support this goal.
研究不足
Fibre-optic techniques suffer from two relevant limitations: they are point-to-point connections, requiring the presence of an optical fibre, and NMIs demonstrated only continental.
