研究目的
Investigating the effect of the optical design of multifocal contact lenses on choroidal thickness to understand their protective effect against myopia progression.
研究成果
Multifocal contact lenses have no significant influence on choroidal thickness after short-term wear, suggesting that changes in choroidal thickness might not be the main contributor to their protective effect in myopia control. Further research is needed to explore long-term effects and the role of choroidal thickness in myopia progression.
研究不足
The study evaluated only short-term effects of multifocal contact lens wear, which does not reflect long-term wear. The high repeatability index of choroidal thickness measurement may exceed observed effect sizes. The study focused on distance viewing without near activities.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study involved 18 myopic participants wearing four different contact lenses for 30 min each on their right eye. Automated analysis of macular choroidal thickness and vitreous chamber depth were performed before and after wear. Peripheral refraction profiles were obtained using eccentric photorefraction.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Participants were between 18 and 35 years of age with specific refractive error criteria. OCT scans and biometry measurements were the primary data sources.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
CIRRUS HD-OCT 5000 for OCT scans, IOLMaster 700 for biometry measurements, and Proclear Multifocal contact lenses.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Participants watched a movie at a distance of 4.50 m during contact lens wear. Measurements were taken before and after each lens wear, with a 15 min wash-out period between lenses.
5:50 m during contact lens wear. Measurements were taken before and after each lens wear, with a 15 min wash-out period between lenses.
Data Analysis Methods:
5. Data Analysis Methods: Automated choroidal segmentation software was used for thickness analysis. Statistical analysis included the Kruskal-Wallis test and one-way ANOVA.
