The objective of this paper is to present a general formulation to predict the electromechanical behavior of FGM shell structures with distributed piezoelectric sensors/actuators using discrete double directors shell model.

The proposed discrete double directors shell element effectively predicts the electromechanical behavior of smart functionally graded structures with integrated piezoelectric layers. The model shows excellent agreement with reference solutions and is capable of analyzing the influence of material composition and curvature radius on structural response.

The study focuses on linear piezoelastic behavior and does not account for geometric nonlinearities or dynamic effects. The model's applicability to very thick shells or shells with complex geometries may require further validation.
