The work demonstrates that ultra-thin NiO single-crystalline porous nanosheets with dominant {1 1 1} facets and decorated with highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles show significantly enhanced gas sensing and photocatalytic performance, attributed to the synergistic effect of single-crystalline porous structures, reactive {1 1 1} crystal facets and facet-selective Pt decoration. The findings offer an effective route for designing high-performance p-type metal oxides/noble metal heterojunctions for environmental applications.
