The construction of optimized p-p heterojunction structure, which promotes electrons transferring from the NiGa2O4 to the NiO, increases oxygen adsorption on NiO surface, and thus enhances the catalytic effect of NiO for oxidizing toluene/xylene. In addition, 50% NiGa2O4-NiO have porous structure and large BET surface areas, providing efficient gas diffusion and numerous active sites for sensing reaction.

The intrinsic responses of p-type semiconductor oxides are often low, and the design of p-p heterostructural sensing materials still remains in a nascent stage and requires further research.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A series of p-p heterojunctions with different NiGa2O4-NiO compositions were controllably synthesized by a simple solvothermal approach.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Gallium nitrate hydrate and nickel nitrate hexahydrate were used as reagents.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
SEM, TEM, XRD, BET surface areas, XPS, UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectra, ICP-OES.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The solutions were transferred to a 50 mL Teflon-lined stainless autoclave, sealed and maintained at 180 °C for 6 h. The resulting powders were washed with ethanol three times and dried in air at 80 °C. Finally, the obtained powders were calcined in air at 600 °C for 3 h.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The sensor response was defined as S = Rg/Ra, where Ra and Rg were the sensor resistance in air and in target gas/vapor, respectively.
