研究目的
To generate the N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) 1,3-dimesitylimidazol-2-ylidene (IMes) under UV-irradiation at 365 nm and to perform ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) in solution and in miniemulsion using this NHC-photogenerating system.
研究成果
The study successfully demonstrates the photogeneration of NHC IMes and its application in photoinduced ROMP in both solution and miniemulsion. The method offers spatial/temporal control of the reaction, opening new avenues for photopolymerization reactions and the photochemical preparation of organometallic complexes.
研究不足
The presence of water or protic species can decrease the yield of released IMes. Dioxygen can react with ITX triplet, preventing the release of IMes. The reaction is highly dependent on solvent polarity.
