研究目的
To study the behavior of the optical signal and optical axes along the continuous transition of a lyotropic system from a nematic discotic (ND) phase to a nematic calamitic (NC) phase, focusing on the case where there is a biaxial nematic (NB) phase between these two uniaxial phases.
研究成果
The study demonstrates that during a continuous transition from a nematic discotic (ND) phase to a nematic calamitic (NC) phase, there is always a biaxial nematic (NB) phase in between where simultaneous changes in the optical signal and optical axes occur. The optical signal changes from positive to negative, and the optical axes rotate from the (cid:1)ez direction to the (cid:1)ex direction. These findings are supported by experimental data.
研究不足
The study is limited to the specific lyotropic mixture of potassium laurate, decanol, and deuterium oxide. The findings may not be directly applicable to other lyotropic systems without further investigation.
