Higher-order intermodal antibunching has been observed for intra-cavity photon–phonon mode, inter-cavity photon–phonon mode, and inter-cavity photon–photon mode in a couple-cavity optomechanical system. The depth of the sub-Poissonian nature increases with the order number and can be manipulated by the phase angle of the cavity photon mode, coupling strength, and photon-hopping interaction term.

The study is conducted under ideal conditions, neglecting optical losses and environmental effects. The solutions are terminated up to quadratic coefficient of the interaction parameter, limiting the analysis to short-time dynamics.
