The study demonstrates that controlling the phase difference of the modulation of dielectric permittivity and magnetic permeability allows for the control of the photonic band gaps' frequency width and location. It also shows the possibility of obtaining photonic band gaps in the terahertz radiation region and the formation of four photonic band gaps in each diffraction order when the periods of spatial modulation of dielectric permittivity and magnetic permeability differ.

The study assumes that the dielectric permittivity and magnetic permeability do not depend on frequency and that their imaginary parts are very small and independent of frequency, which may not account for all real-world optical dispersion effects.
