1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study involved the condensation of rhodamine-hydrazine with 2,4-pentanedione and 1,3-cyclohexanedione to afford stable enol hydrazone and enamine rhodamines.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Rhodamine B, hydrazine, 1,2-/1,3-cyclohexanedione and 2,4-pentanedione were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich Co.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Column chromatography was performed on silica gel. 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and 13C NMR spectroscopy experiments were conducted using a Bruker AM-300 spectrometer. UV-Vis spectra were measured using a Jasco V-570 UV-Vis spectrometer. Fluorescence spectra were recorded in a Hitach F-4600 fluorescence spectrometer. Elemental analysis was run on a Vario EL elemental analyzer.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The synthesis involved refluxing the mixture of rhodamine-hydrazine and carbonyl compounds in benzene, followed by purification through column chromatography.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The binding constants of the rhodamine-metal complexes were calculated from absorbance upon metal concentration.
