Exploring morphological aspects of bismuth based MOFs, their potential as effective adsorbent and more particularly their luminescent behavior, because exploration of heavy metal-metal based 'triplet-harvesting agents' is getting attention for their applications in OLEDs.

Four bismuth-MOFs were solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. These MOFs exhibited good blue luminescent emissions and can be used as promising candidates for developing luminescent materials. Moreover, the N2 gas adsorption capacities of these MOFs also make their possible applications for sequestering gases and other pollutants from environment.

Limited and selective solubility of the synthesized MOFs, which made it difficult to produce single crystals of good quality for single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.
