研究目的
Analyzing the error in a real-time measurement of the angular velocity of a moving target using two homodyne radar systems with fast frequency ramps and the effect of phase noise in the PLL on the rms error of the measured angular velocity.
研究成果
The proposed FMCW radar system using two incoherent homodyne radar sensors can measure distance and azimuth of a target in real time with simple data processing. The VCO phase noise is identified as the dominating contribution to the error for fast frequency ramps. The method shows potential for collision avoidance in automotive applications, especially for short and medium distances.
研究不足
The analysis is limited to the effect of phase noise in the PLL on the rms error of the measured angular velocity. The method assumes that the distance measurements are independent and the phase between the two radar signals is not evaluated, which simplifies the design but may limit accuracy in certain scenarios.
