To explore detection and tracking of astral microtubules, a sub-population of microtubules, for determining the presence of certain diseases such as brain pathologies and cancer.

The proposed algorithm is able to efficiently detect and track microtubules in fluorescence microscopy images, providing promising results compared with the expected microtubule behaviour at increasing concentrations of both nocodazole and taxol. Future works aim to improve SNR computation and user interface.

The algorithm's performance depends on the chosen parameters, which are stack-dependent. Future work includes defining a more robust way to compute the SNR and implementing the algorithm as an ImageJ plug-in for a user-friendly interface.
