To develop a colorimetric approach for the determination of cadmium(II) using unmodified gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as a colorimetric probe.
研究成果
An ultrasensitive colorimetric assay for Cd2+ detection is presented. It is based on the Cd2+-GSH complex-triggered AuNP aggregation in salt media with dark-field microscope. The method does not need AuNP surface modification and complicated experimental steps.
研究不足
The sensitivity of this method needs to be further improved to the fM level. Moreover, it is hopeful to find other GSH-like molecules as complexing agents for heavy metal ions to detect other heavy metal ions.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The assay is based on AuNP aggregation induced by the complexes formed between Cd(II) and glutathione (GSH) in a concentrated solution of NaCl.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Different concentrations of Cd2+ solutions were added into the GSH solution, followed by the addition of AuNP solution and NaCl solution.

Gold(III) chloride trihydrate (HAuCl4·3H2O), trisodium citrate, and L-Glutathione (GSH) were used.

The mixture was incubated, and the solution was observed under dark-field microscopy.

The intensity change of AuNPs was monitored as a ratio of absorbances at 600 and 520 nm.
