研究目的
To evaluate the retinal and choroidal vascular changes through optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in patients with macular telangiectasia type 2 (MacTel 2).
研究成果
OCTA provides valuable information on disease severity, progression, and neovascularization activity in MacTel 2 patients. The earliest changes occur in the deep capillary plexus, particularly in parafoveal and temporal quadrant vascular density, FAZ of the deep plexus, GCIPL, and choroid. Further studies are needed to validate the prognostic value of these findings.
研究不足
The study was conducted with a small cohort of patients, limiting the ability to perform significant comparisons between different stages of MacTel 2 due to insufficient patient numbers in each stage.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A comparative study design was used to evaluate retinal and choroidal vascular changes in MacTel 2 patients versus age-matched and sex-matched controls using OCTA and SD-OCT imaging. The study was approved by the local ethics committee and conducted in compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
The study included 20 patients (40 eyes) with MacTel 2 and 18 control subjects (36 eyes). Inclusion criteria for patients were eyes with nonproliferative or proliferative MacTel type
3:Exclusion criteria included refractive error > ±3 spherical equivalent, poor image quality, high intraocular pressure, preexisting macular pathologies, other retinopathies, ocular diseases, previous treatments, and systemic conditions like diabetes or hypertension. List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Equipment used included OCTA (Optovue RTVue XR 100 Avanti), SD-OCT (Cirrus HD-OCT), fundus color photography, fundus autofluorescence, and fundus fluorescein angiography.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
All participants underwent comprehensive ophthalmologic examinations, including BCVA measurement, slit lamp examination, intraocular pressure measurement, dilated fundus examination, and imaging with OCTA and SD-OCT. OCTA imaging was performed with a 3x3 mm scan protocol, and images were graded by two clinicians. Vascular density, FAZ, CT, and GCIPL thickness were measured and compared.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS Statistics version 22. Normality was checked with Shapiro-Wilk test; independent t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were used for group comparisons. Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients were used for correlation analysis, with p < 0.05 considered significant.
