研究目的
Evaluating MODIS and MISR aerosol optical depth retrievals over environmentally distinct sites in Pakistan.
研究成果
The study concludes that MODIS C061 shows significant improvement over C006, with DT generally overestimating and DB underestimating AOD compared to AERONET. MISR performs better over high-reflecting surfaces like Karachi. Seasonal variations affect performance, with summer showing lower accuracy for some algorithms due to meteorological conditions. The results provide insights for future validation and use of satellite aerosol products in the region.
研究不足
The study is limited to two sites in Pakistan, which may not represent all environmental conditions. The number of collocated points for some algorithms and seasons is low, affecting statistical reliability. Uncertainties in surface reflectance and algorithm limitations over specific terrains (e.g., urban vs. vegetated areas) are noted. The temporal resolution of MISR is lower, leading to fewer data points.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study involves validating satellite-derived AOD from MODIS and MISR against ground-based AERONET measurements using statistical metrics such as correlation coefficient, root mean square error, mean absolute error, relative mean bias, and relative error. The ?ngstr?m power law is used for wavelength interpolation.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Data from two AERONET sites in Pakistan (Lahore and Karachi) during 2007–2014 are used. Satellite data include MODIS Collections 6 and
3:1 (DT, DB, DTB at 3 km and 10 km resolutions) from Terra and Aqua satellites, and MISR V0023 AOD at 4 km resolution. List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Equipment includes MODIS and MISR sensors on satellites, AERONET CIMEL sun/sky radiometers, and meteorological instruments for parameters like precipitation, temperature, humidity, and wind speed.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Spatiotemporal collocation is done using a 5x5 pixel grid around AERONET sites with temporal averaging within ±30 minutes of satellite overpass. Data are processed and compared using statistical methods.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis includes calculation of R, RMSE, MAE, RMB, RE, and error envelop (EE) to assess accuracy and performance of AOD retrievals.
