研究目的
To summarize recent developments in artificial photosynthesis, focusing on CO2 reduction and water splitting for solar fuel production.
研究成果
This account summarizes recent progress in artificial photosynthesis. Even though almost half a century has passed since its first discovery by Honda and Fujishima, artificial photosynthesis has not found practical applications and remains at the basic research level owing to its low conversion efficiency. However, dedicated work by various researchers has helped in the understanding of the underlying phenomena more deeply and in developing strategies to enhance the conversion efficiency, which has gradually increased for both CO2 reduction and water splitting. Artificial photosynthesis has the potential to be a realistic and economic solar-fuel-production process if the conversion efficiency can be further enhanced. We therefore hope that the advent of an eco-friendly society based on artificial photosynthesis will occur in the near future.
研究不足
The paper does not explicitly state limitations, but it mentions challenges such as low conversion efficiency, catalyst stability, product selectivity, and the complexity of reaction mechanisms that hinder practical applications of artificial photosynthesis.
