    摘要: Currently technological developments are needed in all aspects of human life. It also covers the provision of data or information because it is related to someone's life. Data or information that provided in image formats is developed in health field of a human's life because it contains a lot of information about patient health that can’t be described by text or audio format. Currently due to the human body is susceptible to radiation rays then as long as the patient is detected by x-ray it will be subjected to a process of radiation exposure so that the x-ray image results in a decrease (degradation) of quality. There are several operations used in image processing to solve that problem. One of them is an edge detection. Due to the current edge detection is still considered not perfect because there is still Gaussian noise. So in this paper proposed method to improve image quality from quantum noise disorder by improving the method of Sobel, so can help the medical world in detecting a disease.

  • Comprehensive Analysis and Optimal Design of Ge/GeSn/Ge p-n-p Infrared Heterojunction Phototransistors

    摘要: We present a comprehensive analysis of practical p-n-p Ge/Ge1?xSnx/Ge heterojunction phototransistors (HPTs) for design optimization for efficient infrared detection. Our design includes a Ge1?xSnx narrow-bandgap semiconductor as the active layer in the base layer, enabling extension of the photodetection range from near-infrared to mid-infrared to perform wide-range infrared detection. We calculate the current gain, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and optical responsivity and investigate their dependences on the structural parameters to optimize the proposed Ge1?xSnx p-n-p HPTs. The results show that the SNR is strongly dependent on the operation frequency and that the introduction of Sn into the base layer can improve the SNR in the high-frequency region. In addition, the current gain strongly depends on the Sn content in the Ge1?xSnx base layer, and a Sn content of 6%–9% maximizes the optical responsivity achievable in the infrared range. These results provide useful guidelines for designing and optimizing practical p-n-p Ge1?xSnx HPTs for high-performance infrared photodetection.

  • A Residual Phase Noise Compensation Method for IEEE 802.15.4 Compliant Dual-Mode Receiver for Diverse Low Power IoT Applications

    摘要: The Internet of Things with its plethora of applications brings up new challenges in optimizing power consumption, error performance, latency and throughput in its communication devices. Recently, there has been increasing necessity of re-configurable and multi-standard transceivers in order to bring adaptability in the IoT devices to suit the nature of the application and satisfy the aforementioned performance metrics as well. In this work, we focus on the efficient design of receivers compliant with IEEE 802.15.4 which is a prominent protocol for low power IoT applications. We propose a robust phase noise compensation method which efficiently removes the residual phase noise remaining after the coarse frequency offset compensation due to direct-sequence spread spectrum operation on large packets. We also propose a dual-mode receiver using the proposed compensation method and showcase its ability to cater to the diverse nature of IoT applications. The detailed architecture of proposed dual-mode receiver is presented along with its FPGA prototyping and ASIC implementation. We have analyzed overall power consumption by the proposed dual-mode receiver considering the packet error rate and retransmission scenario. The results show that the proposed receiver saves significant energy consumption by changing its mode in favorable channel environments.

    摘要: In photoplethysmography imaging the blood volume pulse is extracted from subtle skin color variations recorded with a camera. In most works, the camera is oriented towards the face or the palm of the hand. Recently, it has been shown that applying contact force to the skin, e.g. through contact with a glass plate, increases signal strength. However, this approach is prohibitive for the face and there are applications where the hands are not accessible. In this paper, we address this issue by applying photoplethysmography imaging to the sole of the foot, which is placed on a glass plate and exposed to controlled illumination. We investigate (1) whether this setup acquires signals with an adequate signal-to-noise ratio and (2) whether the feet can be used as a replacement for the more commonly used hands. Additionally, we analyze (3) whether using a carefully selected pixel subset instead of all pixels improves signal-to-noise ratio. We report on experimental data from N=21 healthy subjects that we make publicly available1. We applied photoplethysmography imaging to the sole of the foot and the palm of the hand and used a commercial ?nger photoplethysmography unit as ground truth. It is problematic that there is no established best practice for signal-to-noise estimation in PPGi research; hence we use ?ve different metrics with three from literature. Additionally, we compare the agreement of these metrics using the experimental data. Our results show that (1) the proposed setup acquires signals with an adequate signal-to-noise ratio, (2) using all pixels from foot videos results in slightly inferior performance compared to the hand, but (3) using pixel subsets improves signal quality at the foot to the level of the hand. These results pave the way for the development of a photoplethysmography imaging setup applied at the sole of the foot for different medical applications.

  • Piezoelectric-Based Support Transducer Design to Enable High-Performance Bulk Mode Resonators

    摘要: An innovative topology to realize high-performance bulk mode devices made up of low-defect material by driving them into resonance using piezoelectric thin-film transduction is proposed and implemented in this paper. Here, the piezoelectric transducer is uniquely positioned at the bulk mode’s support location. To realize the resonators, MEMSCAP Inc.’s PiezoMUMPS platform was utilized. Wine-glass and Lamé bulk mode devices are demonstrated to establish the feasibility of the support transducer drive/sense mechanism. Several drive/sense combinations of the balanced–unbalanced setup were measured. For the differential-in differential-out configuration, reduced feedthrough and enhanced stop-band rejection was observed. As a result, the Wine-glass and Lamé mode resonators having a resonance frequency ( fr ) of 20.943 and 21.15 MHz with a motional resistance (Rm) of 1.68 and 3.88 kΩ and a loaded quality factor ( Ql ) of 9940 and 6840, respectively, operating in vacuum at 0-dBm driving power are demonstrated. Temperature Coefficient of Frequency of ?26.4 and ?25 ppm/K is recorded for Wine-glass and Lamé mode resonators, respectively. To characterize the closed-loop response of the devices, they were connected to a lock-in amplifier with phase-locked loop, and a phase noise of ?122 and ?118 dBc/Hz at 1-kHz offset were measured for Wine-glass and Lamé mode resonators, respectively.

    摘要: This undergraduate laboratory experiment is designed to help students gain a deeper understanding of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Students will learn to fabricate nanoparticles, obtain Raman and SERS data, construct calibration curves, and determine the signal-to-noise ratio, limit of detection, and coefficient of variation of alizarin, a dye molecule commonly found in cultural heritage materials. Overall, the laboratory experiment will provide an opportunity for students to develop laboratory skills in nanoscience and spectroscopy and further develop their critical thinking skills.

    摘要: A potential of a new Reverse synthesis method proposed at IGARSS 2017 for the high-quality Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image synthesis is presented. Images produced by the method are compared with the best existing approaches for the speckle noise reduction. Further capabilities for the image quality improvement like side lobe, range and azimuth reduction, contrast improvement, autofocusing and target detectability improvement are considered. The novel approach allows both: to produce high quality and high-resolution images from existing SAR raw data and to create new high-quality systems with reduced demands to the on-board equipment.

Results of experimental evaluation of the suggested multiplier-less relay correlator in Innovative Integration X6-1000M board with Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA and arbitrary waveform generator Euvis AWG472 are presented.

    摘要: We investigate the scale-invariant properties of divisively normalized bandpass responses of natural images in the DCT-filtered domain. We found that the variance of the normalized DCT filtered responses of a pristine natural image is scale invariant. This scale invariance property does not hold in the presence of noise and thus it can be used to devise an efficient blind image noise estimator. The proposed noise estimation approach outperforms other statistics-based methods especially for higher noise levels and competes well with patch-based and filter-based approaches. Moreover, the new variance estimation approach is also effective in the case of non-Gaussian noise.
