    摘要: A ?rst-of-its-kind fully inkjet-printed electronically tunable active ?exible frequency selective surface (FSS) using varactors with integrated on-package solar cells is presented in this paper. Each varactor is biased by a dedicated on-package inkjet-printed solar cell using a low-temperature fabrication process. The solar cell changes its output voltage with variation in light intensities that eventually leads to a change in capacitance of the varactor and overall frequency response of the FSS. The proposed design eliminates the use of labor intensive biasing network, bulky power supply and micro-controllers to tune the FSS frequency response. These structures presents an autonomous, ultra low cost on-package RF shielding mechanism for next-generation of system-on-chip packaging applications that can be tuned on-demand at different frequency bands by simple variation of incident light intensities. Thus making them useful for a wide range of terrestrial, outer-space and EMI shielding applications.

    摘要: A novel modelling technique to design microwave 3D-printable ?lters based on arbitrarily height-modulated substrate integrated waveguides (SIW) is presented in this paper. In the literature, different topologies have been already employed to design ?lters based on SIW. Nevertheless, none of these solutions have analyzed the behavior of the modulation of the height of the ?lters. This is due to the dif?culty of manufacturing the prototypes with conventional procedures. In this paper, the techniques to design and manufacture these ?lters, provided with microstrip transitions for their validation, are presented.

  • Plasmonic Color Laser Printing inside Transparent Gold Nanodisk‐Embedded Poly(dimethylsiloxane) Matrices

    摘要: Plasmonic color generation from metal nanostructures has attracted intensive attention because of their excellence in achieving high spatial resolution, strong color contrast, and long-term durability. The limited area of plasmonic patterns anchored on substrates and produced by current top-down methods, however, severely restricts the advanced developments and potential applications in structural color display. Herein a robust method for realizing the laser printing of plasmonic colors inside transparent gold nanodisk-embedded poly(dimethylsiloxane) matrices is presented. It is found that various colors can not only be easily generated by embedding gold nanodisks of different sizes, but also finely varied by adjusting the laser pulse intensity during printing. It is further demonstrated that multiple color layers can be laser-printed at different depths. Stereoscopic images in the 3D matrices are laser-printed with sizes as large as 12 × 15 mm2 and a resolution of 4600 dots per inch.

    摘要: Substrate integrated waveguides reduce the losses when compared to traditional planar transmission lines, while maintaining their low profile, and low cost manufacturing. The losses have been further reduced by partially or fully removing the dielectric, and many microwave devices have been successfully implemented with empty substrate integrated waveguides, including H-plane horn antennas. The directivity of the horn antenna can be increased using 3D pyramidal horns, and sacrificing the low profile. However, the low cost can be maintained by using additive manufacturing. In this work the viability of using additive manufacturing for two horn antennas fed with empty substrate integrated waveguide is studied.

  • An Image-Based Gamut Analysis of Translucent Digital Ceramic Prints for Coloured Photovoltaic Modules

    摘要: Colouring the frontglass of photovoltaic (PV) modules via digital ceramic printing aids in concealing the PV modules when integrated into existing building fa?ades as building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), while admitting sufficient light to produce electricity. This promotes the visual acceptance and adoption of PV modules as a source of renewable energy in urban environments. The effective colour of the PV laminate is a combination of the transparent colour on glass and the colour of the PV cells. This colour should ideally match the architect’s visual expectations in terms of fidelity, but also in terms of relative PV efficiency as a function of print density. In practice, these requirements are often contradictory, particularly for vivid colours, and the visual results may deviate significantly. This paper presents an objective analysis of how colours appear on ceramically printed frontglass when laminated with a PV module, using an image-based colour acquisition process. Given a set of 1044 nominal colours uniformly distributed in the RGB colour space, each printed in 10 opacities, we quantify the range of effective colours observed when printed on glass and combined with a PV module, and their deviation from the nominals. Our results confirm that the effective colour gamuts are significantly constrained and skewed, depending on the ink volume and glass finish used for printing. In particular, blue–magenta hues cannot be reliably rendered with this process. These insights can serve as guidelines for selecting target colours for BIPV that can be well approximated in practice.

  • Effect of using ink containing polyacrylate and silicone surfactant on the inkjet printing of quantum dot films

    摘要: For device printing, it is important for uniform films to be printed because the morphology of the film affects the performance of the device in inkjet printing. In this study, to prepare stable and well-dispersed ink, polyacrylate and silicone surfactant BD-3033H were added to ink. Then a uniform quantum dot (QD) film was obtained by optimizing the polyacrylate and silicone surfactant contents of the ink as well as the substrate temperature. The change of the polyacrylate structure from a curly chain structure to a three-dimensional network structure blocked the outward flow of QDs. Silicone surfactant BD-3033H caused Marangoni flow and made the QDs flow inward. When the substrate temperature was increased, the solvent evaporation rate was accelerated, the contact line was pinned, and the outward flow was enhanced, which changed the film structure from convex to flat. Finally, when the polyacrylate content was 12 wt%, the silicone surfactant BD-3033H content was 0.10 wt%, the substrate temperature was 40°C, and the coffee ring effect was eliminated. A uniform QD film was printed, providing a technical guarantee for the fabrication of QD devices in the future.

  • Iterative Learning Control for Laser Scanning based Micro 3D Printing

    摘要: This paper proposes an iterative learning control (ILC) for a micro stereo lithography (MSL) setup to enhance both the speed and the quality of 3D printing. The MSL setup is built based on a commercial confocal microscope while the scanners of both x and y axes are replaced with fast galvanometer scanners considering requirements of random trajectories in 3D printing application. With the stabilized galvanometer scanners, a frequency domain ILC is applied for a precise operation of desired 2D scanning trajectories. For fast scan trajectories up to 400 features per second of a 0.6 mm square, the RMS beam tracking error of the ILCs is reduced by a factor of 25.9 compared with a conventional feedback controllers, also significantly reducing the velocity variation. The printing results with the MSL setup also demonstrate that ILC can improve uniformity of line thickness as well as accuracy of the trajectory.

  • 3D-printed, home-made, UV-LED photoreactor as a simple and economic tool to perform photochemical reactions in high school laboratories

    摘要: In the paper we present the simple manufacturing of an easy and economical UV-A photoreactor using a desktop 3D printer and its application in chemical transformations. PLA (polylactic acid) was used as inexpensive and not toxic polymer for the 3D printing process, while commercially available decorative ultraviolet LEDs (UV-A) have been employed as a light source. With this device, the photoreduction of benzophenone was performed in high yield and short times, compatible with the duration of a typical laboratory experiment in a high school program.
