Vector quantization using the improved differential evolution algorithm for image compression
摘要: Vector quantization (VQ) is a popular image compression technique with a simple decoding architecture and high compression ratio. Codebook designing is the most essential part in vector quantization. Linde–Buzo–Gray (LBG) is a traditional method of generation of VQ codebook which results in lower PSNR value. A codebook affects the quality of image compression, so the choice of an appropriate codebook is a must. Several optimization techniques have been proposed for global codebook generation to enhance the quality of image compression. In this paper, a novel algorithm called IDE-LBG is proposed which uses improved differential evolution algorithm coupled with LBG for generating optimum VQ codebooks. The proposed IDE works better than the traditional DE with modifications in the scaling factor and the boundary control mechanism. The IDE generates better solutions by efficient exploration and exploitation of the search space. Then the best optimal solution obtained by the IDE is provided as the initial codebook for the LBG. This approach produces an efficient codebook with less computational time and the consequences include excellent PSNR values and superior quality reconstructed images. It is observed that the proposed IDE-LBG find better VQ Codebooks as compared to IPSO-LBG, BA-LBG and FA-LBG.

BAT algorithm inspired retinal blood vessel segmentation
摘要: The automated extraction of retinal blood vessels is the course of action in the medical analysis of retinal diseases. The proposed methodology for the retinal vessel segmentation is based on BAT algorithm and random forest classifier. A feature vector of 40-dimensional including local, phase and morphological features is extracted and the feature set which minimises the classifier error is identified by BAT algorithm. The selected features are also identified as the dominant features in the classification. Performance of the proposed method is analysed by the publicly available databases such as digital retinal images for vessel extraction and structured analysis of the retina. The authors’ proposed method is highly sensitive to identify the blood vessels, in view of the fact that it corresponds to the ability of the method to identify the blood vessels correctly. BAT algorithm-based proposed method achieves very high sensitivity and accuracy of about 82.85 and 95.34%, respectively.

摘要: We introduce a novel global optimization algorithm–bat algorithm (BA) for wavefront shaping to focus light through highly scattered media. Compared with the well-known genetic algorithm, BA-based binary wavefront shaping achieves a higher enhancement with less time in noisy environments, which is validated by simulation and experiment. Using a high-speed digital micromirror device, the BA enables quick formation of single or multiple focal spots through a highly scattering layer. The BA offers a competitive algorithm for wavefront shaping in turbid media, which might benefit biomedical imaging in deep tissues.

摘要: Breast malignancy is one of dangerous illness among the women community and premature detection may facilitate to diminish/eliminate breast cancer. Digital Mammogram (DM) is a commonly approved imaging scheme to record and scrutinize the breast cancer. This paper implements a novel hybrid approach based on the combination Otsu’s multi-thresholding and Water Shed Segmentation (WSS) to mine the suspicious sections from the DM. Initially, the multi-level thresholding using the Bat Algorithm (BA) driven Otsu with a bi-, tri- and four-level thresholding is implemented to pre-process the DM. Afterward, a marker controlled WSS is implemented to mine the infected division of DM. The mined section is then evaluated using the Haralick texture feature in order to know the severity of the disease by examining its texture feature. In this paper, DM dataset with dense, medium, low and normal breast regions are analyzed independently with the proposed approach. The experimental result of this paper confirms that, proposed method is very proficient in extracting the breast malignancy from the considered DM database.

摘要: Nondestructive Testing image (NDT) has a wide range of applications in industry. Enhancing the visual quality of an NDT image is dif?cult and it is a challenging domain of research. In this paper, we propose a novel method for NDT image enhancement. In the proposed method a bag of enhancement functions is combined to generate an ef?cient enhancement function for the NDT image. The enhancement function is generated adaptively by taking into consideration the statistics of the NDT image in hand. To speed up the process of combination in the proposed method, we use evolutionary Bat algorithm. The Bat algorithm generates the optimal enhancement function using the bag. The performance of the proposed method is found to be superior to that of the stare-of-the-art methods for NDT image on standard data set.

摘要: This paper proposes an approach to examine the condition of retinal blood vessel in the benchmark retinal images. An automated tool to segment the blood vessel is constructed with multi-scale matched filter along with the bat algorithm (BA). The chief motivation behind the use of BA is to discover optimal filter parameters to attain better segmentation accuracy. The proposed tool is tested using the benchmark DRIVE dataset. The experimental work is implemented using the Matlab software and the superiority of the constructed tool is appraised by computing the well known picture similarity and statistical measures. Finally, the superiority of the proposed approach is justified with a relative analysis against similar procedures available in the literature. The results of this paper confirm that, the implemented tool is efficient in extracting the blood vessel contrast to other techniques existing in the literature.
