    摘要: The classification accuracy of a brain–computer interface (BCI) frequently suffers from ill-posed and overfitting problems. To avoid and alleviate these problems, we propose a method of a multilinear discriminant analysis with constraints to augment parameter reduction, regularization, and additional prior information for event-related potential (ERP)-based BCIs. The method reduces the number of parameters by multilinearization, regularizes the ill-posedness via subspaces that constrain the parameter spaces, and incorporates a brain functional connectivity through the constraints. The experimental results show that the proposed method improved the classification accuracy rates in a single-trial ERP processing.

  • Optical characteristics of silicon recombination random nanostructures for solar cells

    摘要: Background: While enteral nutrition (EN) is the preferred route of nutrition support, and total EN often fails to meet the nutritional needs of patients. A combination of multiple nutritional strategies can reach nutritional goals earlier and improve clinical outcomes. Methods: Totally 108 critically ill patients with a body mass index (BMI) of <22 who were admitted to our intensive care unit (ICU) from May 2017 to December 2018 were randomly divided into EN group (EN support alone) and supplementary parenteral nutrition (SPN) group (EN followed by SPN), with 54 patients in each group. The actual nutrient intake and biochemical markers before and after nutritional support as well as the duration of mechanical ventilation, length of stay (LOS) in ICU, LOS in hospital, ICU/hospital mortality, and infection complications were compared between these two groups. Results: There were no significant differences in albumin, urea nitrogen, alanine aminotransferase, fasting blood glucose, and triglyceride between the EN group and the SPN group before the nutritional support therapy (P>0.05). After the treatment, the albumin level was significantly higher in SPN group than in EN group (P<0.05), although the levels of urea nitrogen, alanine aminotransferase, fasting blood glucose, and triglyceride showed no significant changes in both groups (all P>0.05). The actual calories and protein intakes in the SPN group were significantly higher than those in the control group (both P<0.05). The SPN group had a considerably shorter duration of mechanical ventilation, LOS in ICU, and LOS in hospital and considerably lower incidences of infection complications than the EN group (all P<0.05). The ICU and hospital mortality rates showed no significant difference between these two groups (both P>0.05). Conclusions: SPN can improve the caloric and protein intakes, shorten the duration of mechanical ventilation, LOS in ICU, and LOS in hospital, and reduce the incidences of infection complications without apparent impact on blood lipid and sugar profiles or liver/kidney functions.

  • Predictive Factors for the Efficacy of Er:YAG Laser Treatment of Urinary Incontinence

    摘要: Predictive Factors for the Efficacy of Er:YAG Laser Treatment of Urinary Incontinence. Methods: Eighty-two patients with UI were treated by Er:YAG laser in this cohort study. The patients were evaluated by ICIQ-SF and KHQ-UI before and after the procedure. Improvement was categorized as: none (0-25%), mild (26-50%), moderate (51-75%), or high (76-100%). The duration of the treatment effect was evaluated at follow-up in relation to maximum improvement time (MIT) and total improvement time (TIT). Objectives: To determine the efficacy and predictive factors for the success of Er:YAG laser treatment in patients with urinary incontinence (UI). Results: Forty-two patients were determined to have SUI and 40 patients MUI. The mean ISIQ-SF and KHQ-UI scores significantly improved after the procedure (p<0.0001). The SUI patients responded to the laser treatment significantly better (p<0.008). Younger women had significantly better results (p<0.008), while premenopausal women (p<0.032) and women in the early postmenopausal years (p<0.032) also saw a positive response to the Er:YAG laser treatment. Women with a lower BMI had greater improvement (p<0.011). The total laser energy expenditure during the sessions may also be a predictive parameter for the success of Er:YAG laser treatment of UI (p=0.059). MIT and TIT were significantly longer among the patients in the high-improvement group. Conclusion: Er:YAG laser treatment of the symptoms of UI, especially SUI, is more efficacious and of longer duration for younger, premenopausal or early postmenopausal women with normal BMI.

  • PATIENT DOSE IN DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY UTILISING BMI CLASSIFICATION

    摘要: Dose audit is important towards optimisation of patients’ radiation protection in diagnostic radiography. In this study, the effect of the body mass index (BMI) on radiation dose received by 1869 adult patients undergoing chest, abdomen, lumbar spine, kidneys and urinary bladder (KUB) and pelvis radiography in an X-ray room with a digital radiography system was investigated. Patients were categorised into three groups (normal, overweight and obese) based on the BMI values. The patients’ entrance surface air kerma (ESAK) and the effective dose (ED) were calculated based on the X-ray tube output, exposure parameters and technical data, as well as utilising appropriate conversion coefficients of the recorded kerma area product (KAP) values. The local diagnostic reference levels (LDRLs) were established at the 75th percentile of the distribution of ESAK and KAP values. Statistically, a significant increase was found in ESAK, KAP and ED values, for all examinations, both for overweight and obese patients compared to normal patients (Mann–Whitney test, p < 0.0001). Regarding the gender of the patients, a statistically significant increase was found in the dose values for male patients compared to female patients, except for the chest LAT examinations (Mann–Whitney test, p = 0.06). The percentage increase for chest PA, chest LAT, abdomen AP, lumbar spine AP, lumbar spine LAT, pelvis AP and KUB AP in overweight patients was 75%, 100%, 136%, 130%, 70%, 66% and 174% for median ESAK, 67%, 81%, 135%, 134%, 85%, 63% and 172% for median KAP, as well as 89%, 54%, 146%, 138%, 82%, 57% and 183% for median ED values, respectively. For obese patients, the corresponding increases were 200%, 186%, 459%, 345%, 203%, 150% and 785% for median ESAK, 200%, 185%, 423%, 357%, 227%, 142% and 597% for median KAP, as well as 222%, 156%, 446%, 363%, 218%, 136% and 625% for median ED. The corresponding LDRLs for overweight patients were 0.17 mGy, 1.21 mGy, 3.74 mGy, 7.70 mGy, 7.99 mGy, 4.07mGy, 5.03 mGy and 0.13 Gy cm2, 0.69 Gy cm2, 2.35 Gy cm2, 2.10 Gy cm2, 2.59 Gy cm2, 2.13 Gy cm2, 2.49 Gy cm2 in terms of ESAK and KAP values, respectively, while in the case of obese patients were 0.28 mGy, 1.82 mGy, 7.26 mGy, 15.10 mGy, 13.86 mGy, 6.89 mGy, 13.40 mGy and 0.21 Gy cm2, 1.10 Gy cm2, 4.68 Gy cm2, 4.01 Gy cm2, 4.80 Gy cm2, 3.27 Gy cm2, 6.02 Gy cm2, respectively. It can be concluded that overweight and obese patients received a significantly increased radiation dose. Careful adjustment of imaging protocols is needed for these patients to reduce patient dose, while keeping the image quality at an acceptable level. Additional studies need to be conducted for these patient groups, that could further contribute to the development of radiation protection culture in diagnostic radiography.

  • The Evaluation of Static Deficiencies of Lower Limbs with the Use of Non-Contact Measurement

    摘要: The purpose of this paper is to develop a procedure of the lower limbs volumetric modelling using the laser measurement arm and the evaluation of defects, which can cause disorders in the field of locomotion. The procedure is presented based on the analysis of two specimens: woman (age 22) and man (age 23), whose lower limbs are fully formed. The method includes the laser scanning and the lower limbs regularity evaluation based on the characteristic lines, which were identified during palpation examination of the skin and bones characteristic points or during the radiological examination. The valgus knee and the knee joint hyperextension were determined for the woman’s case and no deficiencies for the man’s case. Presented procedure has a screening application and can support the rehabilitation process. The advantage is that the developed method is noninvasive and the diagnostics can be performed while muscles are active in the natural standing position. The SL method was verified by the Laser Tracker system. On the group of 55 students with the average age of 10.4 years, the measurements were performed in order to define the influence of BMI on the correctness of the results, which were achieved while using the proposed method of the evaluation of the static deficiencies. No relevant influence of BMI on errors occurring in the determination of defects valgus and varus of the lower limbs.

  • A flexible 202-channel epidural ECoG array with PEDOT: PSS coated electrodes for chronic recording of the visual cortex

    摘要: Electrocorticography (ECoG) electrode arrays for epidural implantation allow establishing neural interfaces, which promote investigation of complex distributed brain functions and development of neuroprosthetic systems, while having reduced invasiveness in comparison to intracortical or subdural electrode placement. In this work, we present the design, fabrication, and both in-vitro and in-vivo evaluation of a flexible ECoG array with 202 closely spaced electrodes of 560 μm diameter, each coated with the polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT: PSS) for chronic recording in two visual cortical areas V1 and V4 of macaque monkeys. The specific layout of the array provides a close fit to the curved surface of the brain. We confirm its chronic recording functionality in-vivo by estimating visual receptive fields for the individual electrodes.
