摘要: Visible light communication can provide higher bandwidth and bit rates without causing any interference to the Radio Frequency signals. Red-Green-Blue Light-Emitting Diodes are more suitable than other light sources as they have a smaller switching time, greater lifespan and cost-effective. Designing a communication scheme that avoids dimming and flickering, and that maximize the throughput and coverage area is challenging. Modulation schemes such as Amplitude Shift Keying, Frequency Shift Keying, and Phase Shift Keying exist in the literature for communication with controlled dimming and flickering effect. However, these schemes may not be efficient as they bound the bit rates with more Bit Error Rate. In this paper, a spread spectrum technique, Code Shift Keying along with Manchester (CSK-M) coding, is used to improve bit rates, a reduction in Bit Error Rate with an efficient control of fluctuations and dimming effect. The simulation results show that the presented approach outperforms the existing modulation schemes.

Integrable all-optical pass switch
摘要: A completely new design for an all-silicon all-optical pass switch has been proposed based on the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in silicon nanocrystal embedded slotted photonic crystal waveguide (SPCW). Substantial miniaturisation in the device footprint and operating power has been attained by merging the benefits of the giant SRS gain and the ultra-high optical confinement of the SPCW. The proposed switch offers a tremendously high contrast ratio of (cid:1) 27 dB between the logic levels and an extraordinary bit rate of 125 Gbps.

Evaluation of visual image for remotely controlled ship
摘要: In recent years, automation technology for navigation support is widely accepted not only in the automotive industry but also in the maritime industry. Particularly, the research related to autonomous and remotely controlled ships has become the major topic in the maritime field. At Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT), the research for the operation of remotely controlled ships has been started since 2015. In this paper, we report the results of experiments on the image evaluation method required for the remote-control system using wireless communication. The remote-control system is required to install sensors that replace merchant marines’ visual, hearing and other means in manned ship. The camera image is a substitutable method for the merchant marines’ vision and is thought to be one of the most necessary information for the operator of the land station who carries out remote ship maneuvering.

Correlation of Small-Signal Modulation with Digital Modulation Characteristics of High-Speed Semiconductor Lasers
摘要: This paper introduces correlation of the small-signal modulation characteristics with those of digital modulation of high-speed multiple-quantum-well semiconductor laser. The accuracy of applying the common small-signal approximation to calculate the modulation bandwidth is evaluated by comparing the obtained values with those calculated by the reliable technique of time-integration of the rate equations. Also, we present correlation between the maximum bit rate and the small-signal bandwidth at given bias current and modulation index. We show that the bandwidth frequencies predicted by the small-signal approximation are higher than those calculated by the time integration. The difference increases with the increase of the bias current reaching 8 GHz when the current exceeds 3.5 times the threshold current. We predict also the modulation conditions required to achieve modulation speed as high as 40 Gbps. The ratio of the maximum bit rate to the small-signal bandwidth exceeds unity and reaches 1.6 under deep modulation with modulation index equal to 0.5.
