  • Petermann-factor sensitivity limit near an exceptional point in a Brillouin ring laser gyroscope

    摘要: Exceptional points are singularities of open systems, and among their many remarkable properties, they provide a way to enhance the responsivity of sensors. Here we show that the improved responsivity of a laser gyroscope caused by operation near an exceptional point is precisely compensated by increasing laser noise. The noise, of is enhanced because the laser mode spectrum loses the oft-assumed property of orthogonality. This occurs as system eigenvectors coalesce near the exceptional point and a bi-orthogonal analysis confirms experimental observations. While the results do not preclude other possible advantages of the exceptional-point-enhanced responsivity, they do show that the fundamental sensitivity limit of the gyroscope is not improved through this form of operation. Besides being important to the physics of microcavities and non-Hermitian photonics, these results help clarify fundamental sensitivity limits in a specific class of exceptional-point sensor.

  • Waveguide-induced coalescence of exceptional points

    摘要: In non-Hermitian systems, multiple eigenstates can merge into one state at so-called exceptional points (EPs). This paper presents the coalescence of the multiple EPs based on a waveguide. For the ring cavities located at the second-order EPs with desired chiral modes, the waveguide provides unidirectional couplings among the modes of the second-order EPs, which merges the second-order EPs into one high-order EP. The principle of this framework and properties of this system are presented by analyzing the effective Hamiltonian of the system, a mode-coupling diagram, and numerical simulations.

  • Wafer Scale Graphene Field Effect Transistors on Thin Thermal Oxide

    摘要: In this study, we present the feasibility to fabricate back-gated graphene field-effect transistors (GFETs) on 10 nm thermal SiO2 substrate. Here, we compare the mobility of graphene devices at different locations of the transferred CVD graphene. We observed that there is a n-type doping of the graphene devices with Dirac points within ± 0.5 V from an ideal value of 0 V. The downscaling of the back-gate dielectric thickness reduces the operating voltage range, commonly required for low power electronics, and the devices are stable during operation in air under ambient conditions. The extracted contact resistance is comparable to the earlier reports found in literature and this provides a feasibility to fabricate low power futuristic graphene based nanoelectronics.

  • -Symmetry Phase Transition in the Magnon-Cavity-Magnon Coupled System

    摘要: As the counterpart of PT symmetry, for anti-PT -symmetry abundant phenomena and potential applications have been predicted or demonstrated theoretically. However, experimental realization of the coupling required in anti-PT symmetry is di?cult. By our coupling two yttrium iron garnet spheres commonly to a microwave cavity, the large cavity dissipation rate makes the magnon-magnon coupling dissipative and purely imaginary. Thereby, the hybrid magnon-cavity system obeys a two-dimensional anti-PT Hamiltonian. In terms of the magnon-readout method, the method adopted here, we demonstrate the validity of our method in constructing an anti-PT system and present the counterintuitive level-attraction process. Our work provides a platform to explore the anti-PT -symmetry properties and paves the way to study dynamical evolution and topological properties around exceptional points in multimagnon-cavity systems.

  • Design and Evaluation of a Permanently Installed Plane-Based Calibration Field for Mobile Laser Scanning Systems

    摘要: Mobile laser scanning has become an established measuring technique that is used for many applications in the fields of mapping, inventory, and monitoring. Due to the increasing operationality of such systems, quality control w.r.t. calibration and evaluation of the systems becomes more and more important and is subject to on-going research. This paper contributes to this topic by using tools from geodetic configuration analysis in order to design and evaluate a plane-based calibration field for determining the lever arm and boresight angles of a 2D laser scanner w.r.t. a GNSS/IMU unit (Global Navigation Satellite System, Inertial Measurement Unit). In this regard, the impact of random, systematic, and gross observation errors on the calibration is analyzed leading to a plane setup that provides accurate and controlled calibration parameters. The designed plane setup is realized in the form of a permanently installed calibration field. The applicability of the calibration field is tested with a real mobile laser scanning system by frequently repeating the calibration. Empirical standard deviations of <1 ... 1.5 mm for the lever arm and <0.005? for the boresight angles are obtained, which was priorly defined to be the goal of the calibration. In order to independently evaluate the mobile laser scanning system after calibration, an evaluation environment is realized consisting of a network of control points as well as TLS (Terrestrial Laser Scanning) reference point clouds. Based on the control points, both the horizontal and vertical accuracy of the system is found to be < 10 mm (root mean square error). This is confirmed by comparisons to the TLS reference point clouds indicating a well calibrated system. Both the calibration field and the evaluation environment are permanently installed and can be used for arbitrary mobile laser scanning systems.

  • Exceptional points enhance second-order sideband generation in a whispering-gallery-mode microresonator optomechanical system coupled with nanoparticles

    摘要: We theoretically investigate the second-order sideband generation (SSG) in a whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microresonator optomechanical system, in which the WGM microresonator couples with two nanoparticles. The nanoparticles can induce the optical coupling of the clockwise- (CW) and the counterclockwise- (CCW) WGM fields. And by continuously adjusting the relative phase angle between two nanoparticles, two eigenmodes of the optomechanical system coalesce and the so-called exceptional points (EPs) emerge periodically. It is shown that in the WGM microresonator optomechanical system coupled with nanoparticles the second-order sideband can be generated due to the nonlinear optomechanical interactions, modulated periodically by the relative phase angle between two nanoparticles, and enhanced significantly at the EPs. Particularly, considering the frequency shift caused by the nanoparticles at the EPs, the generation and absorption of the second-order sideband can be flexibly realized. These results may have potential applications for high precision measurements and manipulation of light propagation in optical cavities.

  • Collectively induced exceptional points of quantum emitters coupled to nanoparticle surface plasmons

    摘要: Exceptional points, resulting from non-Hermitian degeneracies, have the potential to enhance the capabilities of quantum sensing. Thus, finding exceptional points in different quantum systems is vital for developing such future sensing devices. Taking advantage of the enhanced light-matter interactions in a confined volume on a metal nanoparticle surface, here we theoretically demonstrate the existence of exceptional points in a system consisting of quantum emitters coupled to a metal nanoparticle of subwavelength scale. By using an analytical quantum electrodynamics approach, exceptional points are manifested as a result of a strong-coupling effect and observable in a drastic splitting of originally coalescent eigenenergies. Furthermore, we show that exceptional points can also occur when a number of quantum emitters are collectively coupled to the dipole mode of localized surface plasmons. Such a quantum collective effect not only relaxes the strong-coupling requirement for an individual emitter, but also results in a more stable generation of the exceptional points. Furthermore, we point out that the exceptional points can be explicitly revealed in the power spectra. A generalized signal-to-noise ratio, accounting for both the frequency splitting in the power spectrum and the system’s dissipation, shows clearly that a collection of quantum emitters coupled to a nanoparticle provides a better performance of detecting exceptional points, compared to that of a single quantum emitter.

    摘要: This study aimed the analysis of the positional and geometric accuracy of objects in orthomosaics obtained through different unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) data processing software covering an area located within Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos – UNISINOS in S?o Leopoldo, RS. A total of nine ground control points (GCP) and twenty checkpoints were surveyed in order register and classify the processed orthomosaics according to the cartographic accuracy standard – Padr?o de Exatid?o Cartográfica (PEC). Four software was employed to process the UAV data: Pix4D mapper, Agisoft PhotoScan, Menci APS and Bentley Context Capture. The results obtained from each software were compared and identified the smallest distortions when processing with and without ground control points. The flight was executed at a height of 90m with 60% sidelap and 80% overlap using an ST800 UAV equipped with a Sony NEX-7 small format non-metric camera with 24 megapixels resolution. The software GeoPEC was used to classify the orthomosaics according to PEC. For data processed with ground control points all orthomosaics were classified “Class A” in 1/500 scale, however, only Menci APS did not present a trend line via t-student test. On the other hand, Menci APS presented the worst results without the ground control points. In processing with GCP, all orthomosaics obtained optimum results with an approximated error of 2,5 m2, about 0,03% of the area.

    摘要: In this work we propose a method to find anomalous changes in remote sensing images based on the chronochrome approach. A regressor between images is used to discover the most influential points in the observed data. Typically, the pixels with largest residuals are decided to be anomalous changes. In order to find the anomalous pixels we consider the Cook distance and propose its nonlinear extension using random Fourier features as an efficient nonlinear measure of impact. Good empirical performance is shown over different multispectral images both visually and quantitatively evaluated with ROC curves.
