  • Enhanced photoelectrochemical performance of CdO-TiO2 nanotubes prepared by direct impregnation

    摘要: A direct impregnation technique was adopted to prepare a series of CdO-TiO2 nanotubes. Self-organized TiO2 nanotubes were prepared using an optimized two-step anodization process. The morphology, crystallinity, elemental composition, and photoelectrochemical properties of the CdO-TiO2 nanotubes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transimission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis diffuse reflection spectra (UV-Vis DRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoelectric cell (PEC) measurements. At lower Cd(NO3)2 concentration, no obvious CdO crystalline particle formed on the TiO2 NTbs surface, while the EDS and XPS measurements shows the increasing doping amount of CdO as the Cd(NO3)2 concentration increasing. At a relatively high precursor concentration (800 mM), the formation of particle clusters and nanocrystals on the surface of the TiO2 nanotubes could be easily detected, and the sample presented XRD diffraction peaks indicative of CdTiO3. Meanwhile, the Ti 2p XPS spectra displayed an obvious shift (~0.3 eV), which could be attributed to the change in the lattice structure. A negative shift in the flatband potential (Vfb) and a decrease in charge carrier density were observed after doping. The maximum incident photon to charge carrier efficiency (IPCE) value calculated for the CdO-TiO2 nanotubes was 10.16%, much higher than that of pure TiO2 nanotubes.

  • CdO Nanoparticles by Thermal Decomposition of a Cadmium- Hexamethylenetetramine Complex

    摘要: CdO nanoparticles have been prepared by the thermal decomposition of a precursor complex. A simple and cost effective room temperature synthetic technique allows the preparation of the precursor complex from hexamethylenetetramine and cadmium nitrate in ethanol. The precursor, characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermal gravimetric analysis, had the composition [{Cd(HMTA)(NO3)2(H2O)2}n]. It was calcined at 500 oC for 2 h, and the cadmium oxide nanoparticles obtained was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Nitrogen adsorption and physisorption, and Selected Area Electron Diffraction (SAED). XRD shows that the CdO obtained is pure and crystalline. The particles obtained had a cubic morphology and are mesoporous.

  • X-Ray Analysis of Cadmium Oxide Nanostructured Films Synthesized with Different Precursor Molarities by Silar Method

    摘要: Nanostructured cadmium oxide thin films have been synthesized onto suitably cleaned glass substrates by SILAR (successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction) method. X-ray diffraction study confirms the formation of nanocrystalline cubic phase of cadmium oxide in the films. Lattice constant is determined using Nelson Riley plots. Using X-ray broadening, crystallite sizes, lattice strain, stress and energy density were studied by using Williamson-Hall method and modified Williamson-Hall method. From literature review, it is seen that a number of researchers have applied these two methods for structural characterization of thin films of different nanocrystals, but till now modified Williamson-Hall method has not been used for CdO nanocrystals. Hence, we have used these methods for structural characterization of deposited CdO thin films. The ultra-high resolution transmission electron microscopic (UHRTEM) study shows that the shape of the particles is nearly spherical and the average particle size agrees well with the result obtained from X-ray diffraction study. Selected area electron diffraction patterns have also supported the formation of cubic phase of cadmium oxide.

  • Investigation of structural, optical and electrical properties of transition metal oxide semiconductor CdO ZnO nanocomposite and its effective role in the removal of water contaminants

    摘要: In this technological era as the usage and development of technology is on the rise we encounter serious repercussions of pollutions in both drinking and daily usage of water. Nanocomposite of Cadmium Oxide and Zinc Oxide (CdO-ZnO) has the property of alienating the pollutants from the water. A conventional hydrothermal method was adapted for the preparation of nanocomposite of CdO-ZnO from their respective metal acetate dihydrates and NaOH. Structural and morphological analysis by electron beam diffraction technique reveals the formation of unique nanorod with spherical morphology of the synthesized particle. Williamson-Hall method was used to find the crystallite size and the lattice strain. Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy further confirmed the stretching and vibration of chemical bonds of the materials. The study of electronic transitions within the material was portrayed with UV-Vis absorption spectrum and the obtained energy gap is 3.99 eV. A thorough investigation of temperature dependent electrical properties of CdO-ZnO nanocomposite was carried out in the frequency range from 50 Hz to 5 MHz. Studies revealed that the composite material is responsible for higher photocatalytic performance under the irradiation of UV photon. The high photocatalytic activity was originated from superoxide O2? radicals due to the efficient trapping of photogenerated electrons in CdO by ZnO.

  • Pure and M-doped (M=Zn, Cu, Ni, Co) cadmium oxide nanosheets, novel adsorbents for the adsorption of ethyl benzene and ortho, meta, para xylene: a theoretical study

    摘要: The electronic and structural properties investigation of pure and zinc, copper, nickel, cobalt doped cadmium oxide nanosheets (CdONS) and the adsorption of ethyl benzene (EB) and ortho- meta- para xylene (OX, MX, PX) on these nanosheets were studied by density functional theory calculations. The adsorption energy, charge transfer, energy gap, spatial distribution of HOMO and LUMO orbitals and electron density scheme of ethyl benzene and ortho, meta, para xylene molecules on pure and doped CdONS are calculated. The obtained results show that the adsorption energy value increases after doping Zn, Cu, Ni and Co atoms in oxygen substituted state, especially in NiOCdONS and CoOCdONS. The adsorption energy of EB, OX, MX and PX on NiOCdONS and CoOCdONS is about ? 260?kJ/mol whereas its value on pure CdONS is approximately ? 100?kJ/mol. In comparison with pure CdONS, the adsorption energy of the molecules on MCdCdONS, decreases except in NiCdCdONS. The adsorption energy of OX, MX and PX on NiCdCdONS is ? 263.12, ? 150.94 and ? 151.85?kJ/mol, respectively. Also, the results show that the value of energy gap increases after the adsorption of EB, OX, MX and PX on CoOCdONS, therefore, CoOCdONS can be proposed as proper adsorbent and sensor for these molecules.

  • Synthesis and Characterization of Glucuronic Acid Capped CdO and CdS Nanoparticles

    摘要: Cadmium oxide and cadmium sulphide nanoparticles have been prepared with variety of stabilizers for different purposes and glucuronic acid is used for capping CdS and CdS nanoparticles. These nanoparticles were prepared by using cadmium acetate with thioacetamide for CdS and cadmium chloride and the strong base for CdO nanoparticles. The as obtained CdO and CdS nanoparticles were characterized by a combination of microscopy and spectroscopic techniques for their morphology, size and crystallinity. The glucuronic acid-capped CdS and CdO nanoparticles showed blue shifts in their absorption band edges and with emission maxima red shifted from the band edge. The particles were obtained with good crystallinity and spherical in shape with relatively narrow size distribution.
