    摘要: The next generation passive optical network, stage 2 (NG-PON2) constitute milestone in the optical access networks evolution. Currently the requirements of its physical layer, such as a 40 Gb/s of upstream/downstream capacity, using a hybrid WDM-TDM technology with reliability and efficiency in bandwidth and power consumption. The NG'PON2 standard also demand an Optical Distribution Network (ODN) backward compatibility with previous ITU-T PON standards. In this paper we provide a comprehensive way to understand NG-PON2 and present an experimental demonstration of a NGPON-2 compliant network deployment, employing BER and Optical Path Penalty (OPP) measurements, in order to verify the performance of different inter-channel spacing variations for determining its impact in the data transmission. Results show that there is a 3 dB penalty when using 0.2 nm of inter-channel spacing with respect to a 0.4 nm of inter-channel spacing.

  • Suppression of four-wave mixing in a 22?×?10?Gbps dense wavelength division multiplexed system by linearly chirped fiber Bragg gratings

    摘要: A scheme comprising two linearly chirped fiber Bragg gratings (LCFBGs) is proposed to suppress four-wave mixing (FWM) effects in a 22×10? Gbps dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) system employing dispersion shifted fiber with 0.2? nm channel spacing. The FWM reduction in our proposed scheme has been studied by varying the input signal power per channel from ? 2 to + 10? dBm. The parameters of LCFBGs are optimized to obtain a maximum quality factor for all 22 channels. The proposed method is effective even at high input power (10?dBm) and provides a simple, cost effective way to improve the transmission performance in DWDM system.

    摘要: Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) based PMMA polymer that functioning as multiplexer/demultiplexer (mux/de-mux) having good potential in WDM system and interferometer optical sensor. Besides, AWG is suitable for larger count optical signals and good filter response devices. AWG demultiplexer based polymer was simulated using Beam Propagation Method (BPM) under TE mode with 1550 nm central wavelength. This work explores the performance of polymer-based AWG with straight waveguide structure that capable to produce 16-channels AWG device for 100 GHz (0.8 nm) channel spacing. The 16-channels AWG based polymer produces low insertion loss of 3.430 dB and low crosstalk of -24.763 dB. The central wavelength for each output port gives almost similar values with the standard ITU-T DWDM wavelength grid with the smallest difference of 0.5 nm. This proposed device also capable to solve the demand on higher channel capacity especially to support internet usage and the needs of the best communication system.
