    摘要: In the current era of increasing natural disasters, especially wind disasters such as tropical cyclones, tornadoes, thunder storms etc., the need for a rapid damage assessment and mitigation action became inevitable. Detecting damages on a wider perspective using remote sensing images makes the damage investigation much faster. The current work introduces the technology of texture-wavelet analysis for detection of roof damages due to cyclones and tornadoes from close range remote sensing imageries. Degree of Damage (DoD) is quantified by calculating the percentage of damaged portion of the building roofs. A positive correlation factor ranging from 0.75 to 0.80 for remote imagery with respect to the visually measured data as well as field investigation data validates the accuracy of the method. Thus depending on severity measured from the percentage area of damage determined, emergency aid and medication can be prioritized thereby aiding disaster mitigation process.

  • JOINT SELF-ADAPTIVE CORRELATION METHOD AND MODIFIED EMPIRICAL MODE DECOMPOSITION FOR SOFT DEFECT DETECTION IN CABLE BY REFLECTOMETRY

    摘要: In a previous paper, we have introduced an innovative approach called the self-adaptive correlation method (SACM). It consists in treating the re?ectogram in order to amplify the signatures of soft defects and make them more easily detectable. This method allows to highlight the soft defect while attenuating the noise present on the re?ectogram and has the advantage of reducing the computational complexity compared to the state of the art. We drew attention to the sensitivity of the performance of this method to noise. In this paper, we propose a solution for the pre-denoising of re?ectogram before applying the SACM. This solution consists of an adapted version of the empirical mode decomposition algorithm, we called MEMD for Modi?ed Empirical Mode Decomposition which bypasses some limitations of the conventional EMD.

    摘要: A proof of concept design for splitting the single conventional beam of a Yagi antenna into multiple beams is presented by exciting the 3λg loop resonating mode as well as using multiple director elements. The proposed multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system is designed in a triangular con?guration, so that the adjacent beams do not cancel the effect of each other and to achieve orthogonal radiation patterns each covering 120o sector. The design has a minimum measured -10 dB bandwidth of 980 MHz (5.66-6.64 GHz) targeting the WLAN band. The board diameter of the MIMO antenna system is only 120 mm. It has a minimum front-to-back ratio (FBR) of 10 dB, gain of 3.8 dBi, and ef?ciency of 92%. The proposed MIMO antenna system has high port isolation of 30 dB and low envelope correlation coef?cient (ECC) value of 0.012 in the entire band of operation between all its elements.

    摘要: Using fixed-node diffusion quantum Monte Carlo (DMC) simulation we investigate the structural properties and energetics of the linear and cyclic carbon clusters Cn for n (cid:2) 10. We calculate the binding energy, the electron correlation energy, the dissociation energy, and the second difference in energy. We also present an analysis of the structural properties of the clusters. It is found that the bond lengths, binding energies, and dissociation energies obtained from the DMC calculations are in excellent agreement with the available experimental results. The electron-correlation contribution to the binding energy indicates that in the case of the linear isomers, the clusters of odd-number size are relatively more favored than their neighbors of even-number size, whereas for the cyclic isomers, we do not observe the oscillation pattern. In the range of cluster size under investigation, we find that the electron-correlation impact in the binding energy of the cyclic clusters is larger than that of the corresponding linear ones, varying from 30% to 40% of the binding energy values. The electron correlation is also essential to the stability of the clusters enhancing by up to 52% their dissociation energy. A comparative analysis of the dissociation energy and second difference in energy indicates that the linear isomers C3 and C5 are the most stable ones.

  • Correlation of Near Infrared Spectroscopy Measurements with the Surface Roughness of Wood

    摘要: The surface roughness of Chinese fir and Eucalyptus wood samples were measured using the stylus profile method in order to investigate the correlation between near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and surface roughness. The results showed that the NIR spectra absorption showed differences among samples from different surface roughnesses, and the absorption decreased with the increase of the surface roughness. A strong relationship was found between the surface roughness parameters, i.e., the arithmetical mean deviation of the profile (Ra), the ten-point height of irregularities (Rz), and the maximum height of profile (Ry). Based on the NIR spectra of the Chinese fir wood samples and the mixed wood samples of the two wood species, and the correlation coefficients of these two types of wood samples in a calibration set were 0.77 to 0.83 and 0.67 to 0.74, respectively. A relatively poor correlation was found in the model based on the Eucalyptus samples; however, it was still significant. These results suggested that there was relative information about the surface roughness from the NIR spectra, which further illustrated that the surface roughness may influence the effect of models for wood properties built by NIR data.

    摘要: An integrated electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) and electrostatic sensor has been developed for measurement of volume flow rate in particulate processes. Unlike the traditional methods for mass/volume flow rate measurement, this integrated sensor can measure particle concentration and velocity at the same cross section instead of different cross sections. Experiment was carried out to measure particle concentration, velocity and volume flow rate using the developed sensor. Experimental results show that the integrated sensor can measure the parameters in particulate processes. The relative error of the measured volume flow rate is less than 10%.
