Large-scale fabrication of highly elastic conductors on a broad range of surfaces
摘要: Recently, a great stretchability progress has been witnessed in elastic electronics. However, such electronics are either costly, toxic, or cannot pattern on a broad range of substrates which limit their large-scale fabrications and applications. Here, to overcome those limitations, an ink comprising liquid metal particles and desirable polymer solutions is developed. The polymer solutions in our ink can be adjusted to print on different surfaces and avoid toxic organic solvents in most cases. The ink can be sintered by small strain (~10%) in room temperature. Using our ink, conductors with high stretchability (380,000 S/m at a strain of 1000%) can be printed in low consumption (liquid metal consumption 3.27 mg/cm2), in large area (bestrew entire surface of a T-shirt) and in high throughputs (~105 cm2 per hour). The ink can be printed on a T-shirt to achieve a smart wearable platform that integrates electronics for strain/electrophysiology/electrochemistry detection, and temperature monitoring/controlling.

Integrated sizing of hybrid PV-wind-battery system for remote island considering the saturation of each renewable energy resource
摘要: The proliferation of renewable energy particularly the combination of solar-wind power and storage bank, is likely to be occupied throughout the world, to mitigate the local energy concerns, improve the energy supply opportunities for off-grid communities and vitiate environmental pollution concerns as well as ease the intensity of energy consumption. To mitigate the disharmony between renewable energy (RE) generation and supply, a cost-optimal autonomous hybrid renewable energy system is developed and comparatively analyzed, considering the saturation level of each involved RE source based on various technical and economic key indicators. This study proposes a mathematical model to comprehensively analyze the effect of varying saturation, i.e. increasing the saturation of one resource meanwhile decreasing the ratio of other resource, on battery bank size, state of charge (SOC), loss of power supply, excess energy, net present cost, levelized cost of energy (COE) and payback time. A saturation factor is introduced, from 0 to 1 value with step size 0.02, where zero represents the wind-only system and one represents the solar-only system. Three different systems are considered, with different wind turbine sizes (total 150 configurations), to comparatively analyze the different energy systems and the result reveals that smaller wind turbine size (2 kW) with 90% saturation of wind energy is the most cost-effective system for the proposed remote island. In addition, the solar-alone and wind-alone systems are compared, showing that the wind-only system can provide good performance as compare to solar-only. Furthermore, the effects of the saturation factor on COE, battery bank size, SOC, excess energy, system reliability and different load demands are analyzed. Energy balance analysis of whole year and simulation performance of the system is accomplished to verify the system reliability. Sensitivity analysis reveals that wind energy, battery cost and load has a significant impact on COE than other factors.

A simple, low cost ink system for Drop-On-Demand printing high performance metal oxide dielectric film at low temperature
摘要: We have successfully developed an ink system containing cheap raw materials through a simple process and have printed ZrOx dielectric film at a relatively low annealing temperature of 250 °C. The ZrOx dielectric film afforded a leakage current density of 5.4×10-6 A/cm2 at 1 MV/cm and a dielectric constant of 10, which shows promising future for flexible electronics. The ink system shows a temperature-induced gelation behavior and gel network is formed when temperature rises. A high concentration of oxide precursors is obtained near the network area through the absorption function of polymer groups, and thus oxide structure can be formed at a relatively low temperature due to the shorter diffusion path of precursor polymerization. The microstructure of printed ZrOx film was investigated by High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and the effect of annealing temperature on film structure was studied.

摘要: Medical instrumentation devices are crucial to determine health conditions in humans. Teaching biomedical instrumentation requires a perfect combination of practice and theory. Therefore, the use of physiological signals simulators such as a %SpO2 becomes important as a teaching strategy. The objective of this project is to develop and implement an oxygen saturation simulator, for use in the biomedical instrumentation courses. The development process began by establishing the requirements of the simulator and designing a graphical user interface to control the simulator parameters. Subsequently, a circuit capable of materializing the simulated signals from the interface was developed, together with a probe or artificial finger that was to be introduced inside the objective pulse oximeter. Finally, the systems were integrated into the simulator

摘要: In this paper, a low-cost vision-based autonomous landing architecture for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on a moving platform is presented. First, a novel landing pad was designed for a monocular camera to robustly detect the pad in both high and low altitudes. In order to solve mirror effect and occasional misidentification, a 3D points cluster algorithm for relative position estimation is presented. Second, the dynamics of the quadrotor is simplified for this landing task and a PD controller is designed based on the estimated relative position. Finally, the low-cost system architecture of the quadrotor and the experiment results are both presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

摘要: In this paper an 80 W optimally tilted fixed solar energy system and an 80 W azimuth-altitude dual solar axis tracking system are designed and analyzed. The systems are mounted on the roof an industrial building in Sakarya, Turkey. The fixed solar energy system is tilted at the yearly optimum tilt angle for the city. The tracking system is designed to follow the Sun’s position by means of solar mathematics. The electrical behavior of the systems are observed for six months and the obtained results are used to evaluate the setup cost payback times of 1 kW applications. In conclusion it is determined that the fixed solar energy system pay back its setup cost in 7.18 years and the tracking solar energy system in 10.73 years.

Enhanced removal of antibiotics from secondary wastewater effluents by novel UV/pre-magnetized Fe0/H2O2 process
摘要: Antibiotics have been frequently detected in the aquatic environment and are of emerging concern due to their adverse effect and potential of inducing antibiotic resistance. In this study, we developed an UV/pre-magnetized Fe0/H2O2 process (UV/pre-Fe0/H2O2) valid for neutral pH conditions, which could remove sulfamethazine (SMT) completely within only 30 min and enhance 1.8 times of SMT removal. Meanwhile, this process demonstrated outstanding mineralization capability with the TOC removal of 92.1%, while for UV/H2O2 and UV/Fe0/H2O2 system it was 53.9% and 72.1%, respectively. Better synergetic effect between UV irradiation and pre-Fe0/H2O2 system was observed, and the value of synergetic factor was 6.3 in the presence of both ions and humic acid, which was much higher than that in deionized water (4.4), humic acid (5.5) and ions (1.5). Moreover, the process could efficiently remove various antibiotics (800 μg L-1 oxytetracycline (OTC); 800 μg L-1 tetracycline (TC); 400 μg L-1 sulfadiazine (SD) and 400 μg L-1 SMT) in the secondary wastewater effluent. After optimization of Fe0 and H2O2 dosage, these antibiotics could be removed within 10 min (kapp (103) = 288.6 min-1) with a very low treatment cost of 0.1 USD m-3, and the EE/O value was only 1.22 kWh m-3. Compared with O3, UV/Fe2+/PDS, VUV/UV/Fe2+ and other US-based processes, the degradation rates by this process could enhance as high as 22.3 folds while the treatment cost or EE/O value could reduce greatly. Therefore, UV/pre-Fe0/H2O2 process is promising and cost-effective for the treatment of antibiotics in secondary wastewater effluents.

摘要: Low-latency applications such as augmented reality, cognitive assistance, and context-aware computation are better supported by augmenting cloud networks with cloudlet enabled edge computing solution. This overcomes the high-transmission latency arising from the edge devices in the access segment to cloud servers located in the core. In this talk, we will review our recently proposed hybrid cost-optimization framework for optimal cloudlet placement over existing passive optical access networks, subject to capacity and latency constraints. In our work, we formulate a mixed-integer non-linear program to identify ideal locations (either at the central office (CO), remote node (RN), or in the field) for cloudlet placement over three deployment areas of differing population densities. Our results point to the fact that the installation of more RN and CO-located cloudlets will yield an improved cost optimal solution than the installation of field cloudlets alone, and that the percentage of the incremental energy budget arising from the installation of cloudlets are low.

Measuring the Spatial Noise of a Low-Cost Eye Tracker to Enhance Fixation Detection
摘要: The present study evaluates the quality of gaze data produced by a low-cost eye tracker (The Eye Tribe?, The Eye Tribe, Copenhagen, Denmark) in order to verify its suitability for the performance of scienti?c research. An integrated methodological framework, based on arti?cial eye measurements and human eye tracking data, is proposed towards the implementation of the experimental process. The obtained results are used to remove the modeled noise through manual ?ltering and when detecting samples (?xations). The outcomes aim to serve as a robust reference for the veri?cation of the validity of low-cost solutions, as well as a guide for the selection of appropriate ?xation parameters towards the analysis of experimental data based on the used low-cost device. The results show higher deviation values for the real test persons in comparison to the arti?cial eyes, but these are still acceptable to be used in a scienti?c setting.

Regional Manufacturing Cost Structures and Supply Chain Considerations for SiC Power Electronics in Medium Voltage Motor Drives
摘要: With the growth in wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductors, specifically Silicon Carbide (SiC), the technology has matured enough to highlight a need to understand the drivers of manufacturing cost, regional manufacturing costs, and plant location decisions. Further, ongoing research and investment, necessitates analytical analysis to help inform development of wide bandgap technologies. The paper explores the anticipated device, module, and motor drive cost at volume manufacturing. It additionally outlines the current regional contributors to the supply chain and proposes how the base models can be used to evaluate the cost reduction potential of proposed research advances.
