  • LONG-REACH OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORKS (LR-OANS): A PROMISING CANDIDATE FOR FUTURE OPTICAL ACCESS

    摘要: The ever-increasing demand for broader bandwidth per user, which results from the continuous development of new bandwidth-hungry services and applications, creates the motivation to upgrade the currently deployed Time-Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Networks (TDM-PONs) to Next-Generation Optical Access Networks (NG-OANs). Beside the need for more bandwidth per user, a further extension in the range and an increase in the split ratio are highly desirable in PONs. These additional requirements can be achieved by adopting so-called Long-Reach Optical Access Networks (LR-OANs). LR-OANs offer a promising solution that ensures a significant number of users can be supported over a longer range. Moreover, they introduce a cost-effective approach in which both the access and metro segments of the telecommunication network are combined into one backhaul segment, which results in the consolidation of many central offices into one trunk-exchange. This cost-effective approach gave us the motivation to provide a comprehensive survey on the LR-OANs. In this study, we first provide a brief review of different potential technologies, proposed for next-generation optical access. We then provide a review of different stat-of-the-art LR-OAN architectures including opportunities and challenges in each one. A comparison among them based on key network specification is also provided.

  • Effect of Fiber-Optics Nonlinearities in Long Haul and Ultra-High Speed DWDM Optical Transmission Networks at 10, 40 and 100?Gb/s Ultra-High Speed Data Rates

    摘要: The impact of major nonlinearities in optical fiber such as SRR (Stimulated Raman Scattering) and Four Wave Maxing (FWM) in cascaded amplifier Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing optical long reach and high speed data rate transmission scheme have been investigated at different data rates. Pulse walk off effect is considered for the purpose of calculating Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) nonlinear factor. Examination has been accomplished to assess signal to noise ratio the consolidated impact of SRS and thinking about FWM within the sight of amplified spontaneous emission noise to achieve minutest noise at altered data rates.

  • Molecular RFID System Design Using a Micro-ring Transceiver

    摘要: Molecular RFID System Design Using a Micro-ring Transceiver where the two way communications in both aspects by electromagnetic wave and polarized light via the transceiver is realized. In application, the demodulation of the output signal allows that the required signal and codes can be retrieved via the end user (receiver). In analogy, the origin signal is sent by Alice and securely retrieved by Bob, which is useful for mobile telephone security, where the up-and down link to the base station can be supported (Figures 1 and 2). Moreover, the short range communication network known as ad hoc network can also securely implemented by using the micro-ring transceiver including within the system for a short range network. The output is connected to the communication media that can be electron/molecule/light, where the security is covered by the quantum method. The security is controlled by polarization states, from which the reference and signal qbits are added and checked before the required data being securely retrieved, where finally, the required data is linked safely between Alice and Bob.
