  • Photocuring of Radically Polymerizable Hyperbranched Polymers Having Degradable Linkages

    摘要: Hyperbranched polymers having a number of reductive disulfide bonds and radically reactive vinyl groups were synthesized by the bulk radical homopolymerization of bis(2-methacryloyloxyethyl)disulfide (disulfide based dimethacrylate, DSDMA) as a divinyl monomer in the presence of methyl 2-(bromomethyl)acrylate as an addition-fragmentation chain transfer agent. The resulting hyperbranched polymers (HB-DSDMAs) were photocured by irradiated at 365 nm in the presence of 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone as a photo radical initiator. The photocured HB-DSDMA exhibited high transparency in the visible region and good solvent resistance for various organic solvents. Reduction of the disulfide groups smoothly proceeded in the presence of tributylphosphine as a reductant, and the cured HB-DSDMAs were completely solubilized. HB-DSDMAs were also photocured by irradiation at 254 nm due to the homolysis of the disulfide groups with subsequent initiation of the radical polymerization.

  • Flexible and Degradable Multimodal Sensor Fabricated by Transferring Laser-Induced Porous Carbon on Starch Film

    摘要: Flexible sensors (FSs) hold great potential in wearable and intelligent equipment, but the preparation of degradable and multimodal FSs is urgently demanded, which may simplify the sensor matrix and reduce electronic waste. Here in this work, a multimodal and degradable FS was fabricated by transferring laser-induced porous carbon onto starch film. The obtained sensor showed three modes that can detect strain (with gauge factor (GF) = 134.2, response time of 130 ms, and stability >1000 times), temperature (25?90 °C), and pressure (0?250 kPa). The sensor can be used for monitoring human motions, detection of spatial pressure, and multiple stimuli. More importantly, the sensor was demonstrated to be degradable in water, suggesting it is a "green" electronic device being free of electronic pollution. This kind of multimodal and degradable FS may find wide applications in health and sports monitoring, flexible electronics, artificial intelligence, and so on.

  • It’s in the Fine Print: Erasable Three-Dimensional Laser-Printed Micro- and Nanostructures

    摘要: 3D printing, on all scales, is currently a vibrant topic in scientific and industrial research as it has enormous potential to radically change manufacturing. Due to the inherent nature of the manufacturing process, 3D printed structures may require additional material to structurally support complex features. Such support material must be removed after printing – sometimes termed subtractive manufacturing – without adversely affecting the remaining structure. An elegant solution is the use of photoresists containing labile bonds that allow for controlled cleavage with specific triggers. Herein, we explore state-of-the-art cleavable photoresists for 3D direct laser writing, as well as their potential to combine additive and subtractive manufacturing in a hybrid technology. We discuss photoresist design, feature resolution, cleavage properties, and current limitations of selected examples. Furthermore, we share our perspective on possible labile bonds, and their corresponding cleavage trigger, which we believe will have critical impact on future applications and expand the toolbox of available cleavable photoresists.
