  • Combination of Sclerotherapy and Dual-Wavelength Laser in the Management of Infantile Hemangiomas in Chinese Infants

    摘要: OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination therapy with sclerotherapy and dual-wavelength pulsed dye laser (PDL) & Nd:YAG for infantile hemangiomas (IHs). PATIENTS AND METHODS Fifty-nine patients with IH received treatment with sclerotherapy and dual-wavelength PDL & Nd:YAG treatment at 4-week intervals. Observers assessed the size and color of IH using a size rating scale and color rating scale before and after treatments. RESULTS The study showed that IH improved significantly after several sessions of treatment. Sclerotherapy reduced the size of IH, whereas dual-wavelength laser lightened the color of IH. No serious adverse effects occurred. CONCLUSION Combined sclerotherapy and dual-wavelength laser treatment is an effective and safe option for IH.

  • A Method to Improve the Imaging Quality in Dual-Wavelength Digital Holographic Microscopy

    摘要: A digital hologram-optimizing method was proposed to improve the imaging quality of dual-wavelength digital holographic microscopy (DDHM) by reducing the phase noise level. In our previous work, phase noise reduction was achieved by dual-wavelength digital image-plane holographic microscopy (DDIPHM). In the optimization method in this paper, the phase noise was further reduced by enhancing the real-image term and suppressing effects of the zero-order term in the frequency spectrum of a digital hologram. Practically, the carrier frequency of the real-image term has the correspondence with interference fringes the first order intrinsic mode function (IMF1) in bidimensional empirical mode decomposition (BEMD) has similar characteristics to the grayscale values of ideal interference fringes. Therefore, with the combination of DDIPHM and BEMD, by utilizing the characteristics of IMF1, the digital hologram was optimized with purified interference fringes, enhancing the real-image term simultaneously. Finally, the validity of the proposed method was verified by experimental results on a microstep.

  • Dual wavelength optical duobinary modulation using GaAs–AlGaAs microring resonator

    摘要: In this article, optical duobinary modulation technique has been used for modulating the dual-wavelength optical signal generated by the microring resonator system. The optical signals are de-multiplexed to two different optical signals with center wavelength of 1540 and 1545 nm afterward, these are modulated and transmitted over an optical fiber communication system, where the high performance of the transmitted signals is obtained. The NRZ binary signals are used to modulate the optical signals. The high-quality factor and performance of the system has been investigated by applying an optimization through the system parameters, where significant improvement could be obtained and highest quality factor of 32.871 shows the successful transmission. The second wavelength of the dual-wavelength has undergone the same modulation technique and has experienced the optical transmission after the system optimization has been performed, where the quality factor for the received optical signal at 1545 nm center wavelength is 39.282. These results show the introduced modulation technique is suitable to apply for the optical signals generated by the microring resonators.

  • Ellipsometry - Principles and Techniques for Materials Characterization || Photoelastic Modulated Imaging Ellipsometry

    摘要: Photoelastic modulator (PEM)-based ellipsometry employed either lock-in amplifiers or the Fourier analysis technique to obtain the ellipsometric parameters almost in real-time that makes the system with a feature of fast measurement speed, higher stability, and sensitivity at small retardations. Since the PEM modulation frequency is too high to compare it with the exposure time of the camera, photoelastic modulator–based approach is not applicable for a two-dimensional ellipsometric measurement. Here, we represent a novel technique that coordinates with the light pulses and PEM modulation that can freeze the time-varied signals. Thus, two-dimensional ellipsometric parameters can be obtained within few seconds. In addition to ellipsometric measurement, this approach also can be extended to other imaging polarimetry measurements, such as Stokes parameters and Mueller matrix. Moreover, since the chromatic dispersion of birefringence was also a significant issue in the polarization modulation systems, we proposed an equivalent phase retardation technique to deal with this issue. This technique was confirmed by a dual wavelength measurement result without changing the optical configuration of the system. The concept and the theory of this system were indicated in the preceding section, and the passage below described some calibration issues for the photoelastic modulator. Some measurement results were revealed in the final part of this chapter.
