Review on feature extraction for 3D incoherent image processing using optical scanning holography
摘要: The advancement of digital holography in the past 2 decades has enabled precise capturing of three-dimensional (3-D) images of physical objects. This important technology has been widely applied in numerous industrial sectors such as, but not limited to remote sensing, metrology, bio-medical imaging, advertising, and entertainment. Most of the hologram acquisition techniques developed to date are employing digital cameras for recording the hologram, hence imposing rigid restrictions on the size and resolution of the captured 3-D image. This limitation, however, is not found in optical scanning holography (OSH). Based on a scanning mechanism and a single pixel sensor, OSH is capable of capturing digital holograms of both macroscopic and microscopic, as well as fluorescent objects with high precision. Since its invention in the late 70s, numerous research works have been conducted to enhance this technology, optimizing important factors such as acquisition speed, precision, data size, and security. The objective of this review paper is to provide a walkthrough of the state-of-the-art of the OSH technology, from its original principle, to different variants that have been developed over the years with emphasis on their feature extraction capabilities under the incoherent mode of operation. Whenever possible, we shall provide the key formulations of each approach, and experimental outcomes for demonstrating the pros and cons of the method.

摘要: Nowadays biometric authentication mostly used to protect access to highly confidential assets. Identity management is more important than ever as security, make transportation safer and protect a vital commercial entrance. Iris recognition recognizes people very accurately and reliably based on the random texture that visible on the iris of the eye while also being one of the iris pattern identification algorithm with approximately zero false acceptance rate, this paper analyses various edge area detection techniques applying in different iris images. Every algorithm should pass through some basic image pre-processing steps due to iris image quality, including nonlinearly distorted iris images, iris images at a distance or moving condition, and falsified iris images all are open difficulties in this recognition system. A basic work to solve the problems is to study, design and develop various algorithms for all these variations of images. Although current literature has a variety of edge detection techniques like canny, Sobel, Prewitt, this paper does not always lead to acceptable results. But the experimental result demonstrates that the Canny’s algorithm performs comparatively better to detect edge points in a digital image even at a slow rate change of gray level. We have examined noisy iris images applying salt and pepper noise as well as Gaussian noise. Different filtering techniques can be applied to eradicate the undesirable noise. The effects of edge detection techniques of the mean, median and Gaussian filtered images have been observed in the paper. Gaussian filter is powerful for noise eradication. When the Gaussian filter in the vertical orientation is implemented to normalize iris image, the time complexity of this approach is reduced considerably. Experimental results show the validity of this methodology.

Quantum image edge extraction based on classical Sobel operator for NEQR
摘要: As the basic problem in image processing and computer vision, the purpose of edge detection is to identify the point where the brightness of the digital image changes obviously. It is an indispensable task in digital image processing that image edge detection significantly reduces the amount of data and eliminates information that can be considered irrelevant, preserving the important structural properties of the image. However, because of the sharp increase in the image data in the actual applications, real-time problem has become a limitation in classical image processing. In this paper, quantum image edge extraction for the novel enhanced quantum representation (NEQR) is designed based on classical Sobel operator. The quantum image model of NEQR utilizes the inherent entanglement and superposition properties of quantum mechanics to store all the pixels of an image in a superposition state, which can realize parallel computation for calculating the gradients of the image intensity of all the pixels simultaneously. Through constructing and analyzing the quantum circuit of realization image edge extraction, we demonstrate that our proposed scheme can extract edges in the computational complexity of O(n2 + 2q+4) for a NEQR quantum image with a size of 2n × 2n. Compared with all the classical edge extraction algorithms and some existing quantum edge extraction algorithms, our proposed scheme can reach a significant and exponential speedup. Hence, our proposed scheme would resolve the real-time problem of image edge extraction in practice image processing.

摘要: Large amounts of crops are destroyed every year due to pests. Pest detection and identification is needed to ensure good productivity in agricultural crops. Early detection of pests in images is very crucial for effective management of pest control. Therefore, identifying the pest in the image has been a challenging task. In this paper, we use colour based image segmentation method to efficiently detect the pest. The extensive simulation results on various pest images show that the proposed method outperforms the existing Otsu’s method and edge detection segmentation.

Fuzzy based edge guided medical image sharpening technique using median filtering method
摘要: This paper presents a fuzzy edge guided image sharpening technique. Sharpened image is obtained by subtracting the smoothed image of an input image from itself. Image smoothening is carried out with median filtering technique. Median filtering technique is a process of replacing the concerned pixel by the median value of pixels within a block as the concerned pixel is at center. Smoothening is applied only at edge region within the image and hence edge detection is important. It is carried out with the help of the fuzzy value of the second order derivatives along the horizontal, vertical, left and right diagonal directions. According to the degree of edge, image smoothening is applied only on the edge region of the input image.

In the plant disease, most symptoms appear on leaf, so by performing some image analysis we can detect these diseases very fast and accurately. This paper includes survey of different techniques which are used in leaf disease detection. To detect plant disease color conversion, Canny and Sobel edge detectors are used initially and then some segmentation techniques, i.e., Otsu and k-means, are used; after then, feature extraction takes place and is classified with classification techniques.

摘要: In this paper a novel technique to implement gradient based edge detectors on FPGA platform is demonstrated. Three most popular gradient based edge detection algorithms viz. Sobel, Prewitt and Robert Cross are modelled in hardware description language and implemented on Terasic VEEK-MT FPGA development board. The RGB image is first transformed into gray scale using luminosity method which is fed to line buffers to apply appropriate edge detection mask. An edge detection processor block is designed wherein the relevant filter mask is applied followed by generation of horizontal and vertical gradient. The root mean square value of the two gradient components is compared against a user defined threshold before applying to the LCD module for display. The proposed implementation is tested on both still and video images. Implementation result endorses the successful design of gradient based edge detection algorithm on FPGA platform.

Currently due to the human body is susceptible to radiation rays then as long as the patient is detected by x-ray it will be subjected to a process of radiation exposure so that the x-ray image results in a decrease (degradation) of quality. There are several operations used in image processing to solve that problem. One of them is an edge detection. Due to the current edge detection is still considered not perfect because there is still Gaussian noise. So in this paper proposed method to improve image quality from quantum noise disorder by improving the method of Sobel, so can help the medical world in detecting a disease.

摘要: Optical imaging delivers absolute, non-contact, and high-dynamic-range measurement of thermal expansion. However, to achieve high accuracy, various factors should be accounted within the image analysis, including: image spatial sampling, lens aberrations, brightness nonuniformity and object edge deformations. Approach based on the object contour reconstruction is presented. Measurement procedure consists of two stages. Firstly, object edge contours corresponding to different temperatures are estimated. This is done by the novel contour-retrieving image reconstruction, capable of optical and spatial sampling superresolution as well as compensation of brightness nonuniformity. Secondly, the reference retrieved contour is reconstructed to fit retrieved contours for other temperatures, considering a linear expansion model. With the nonlinear algorithms for contour retrieval and reconstruction, small sub-resolution random edge distortions are detected and filtered out, increasing the measurement accuracy. Second improvement of the proposed approach is an opportunity to validate the measurement, given by its fully reconstructive nature.
