Effect of spectral filtering on pulse duration in dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) regime of modelocked fiber laser
摘要: The effect of spectral filtering on pulse duration in an all-normal-dispersion laser operating in a dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) regime is studied numerically and compared with the results obtained by solving the analytical expressions. It is observed that the spectral filtering reduces the pulse duration in the DSR regime. The numerically simulated trend of the variation of flat-top pulse duration as a function of the gain for different spectral transmission bandwidths of the filter shows good qualitative agreement with the experimental results.

摘要: A Q-switched noise-like pulse operation was observed in a nonlinear polarization evolution based thulium-doped fiber laser. This novel phenomena formed in a noise like background. When the pump power was properly controlled and the polarization controller was carefully adjusted, a noise like mode locked pulse was modulated by a Q-switched pulse envelope, which resulted in the Q-switched noise-like pulse formation. In a single pulse envelope, there exist many mode locked pulses that have fundamental repetition rate which is corresponded to the cavity period. When the pump power was carefully increased from 760 mW to 1000 mW, the repetition rate of the adjacent pulse envelope can increased from 34 to 41.1 kHz, and then intra-cavity pulse energy of a envelope reached about 609 nJ. This phenomenon was first observed in thulium-doped fiber laser. It will add experimental basis for studying of the pulse dynamics in fiber lasers.

摘要: The output performance of an incoherently pumped random fiber laser (RFL) dependence on the pump bandwidth has been investigated. This work could provide a new pumping scheme for the high power RFLs. relatively broad pump bandwidth can also help suppress the spectral broadening while maintaining an ultra-high spectral purity. The results reveal that the increment of pump bandwidth can affect the gain characteristics, nonlinear effects and eventually the output performance. This work could provide a new pumping scheme for the high power RFLs.

Tunable passively Q-switched Dy <sup>3+</sup> -doped fiber laser from 271 to 308??μm using PbS nanoparticles
摘要: We present the first widely tunable passively Q-switched Dy3+-doped ZBLAN fiber laser around 3 μm pumped at 1.1 μm using PbS nanoparticles as the saturable absorber (SA) to our knowledge. At 2.87 μm, the modulation depth and saturation intensity of the SA were measured to be 12.5% and 1.10 MW∕cm2, respectively. Stable Q-switching was achieved over a wavelength range of 2.71–3.08 μm (~370 nm), which is a record tuning range from a pulsed rare-earth-doped fiber laser, to our knowledge. A maximum output power of 252.7 mW was obtained, with a pulse energy of 1.51 μJ, a pulse width of 795 ns, and a repetition rate of 166.8 kHz. This demonstration implies that Dy3+ is a promising gain medium for tunable pulsed sources in the 3 μm band and shows for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, the potential of PbS as a mid-infrared SA.

摘要: We report on a robust mode-locked femtosecond fiber laser based on a nonlinear optical mirror with all polarization-maintaining fibers. Stable and self-starting operation is obtained by exploiting an integrated nonreciprocal device biases π/2 phase shift. In the single-pulse region, the laser directly generates output power of 3.15 mW at repetition rate of 87.7 MHz, corresponding to the pulse energy of 37 pJ. The center wavelength is 1585 nm with the spectral bandwidth of 25 nm at the maximum output power. We also evaluate the relative intensity noise of the mode-locking laser.

Lead Sulfide Saturable Absorber Based Passively Mode-locked Tm-doped Fiber Laser
摘要: In this paper, a passively mode-locked Tm-doped fiber laser by employing lead sulfide (PbS) nanoparticles as the saturable absorber (SA) is successfully demonstrated in the 2 μm region for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. Measured by a home-made balanced twin-detector setup at 2 μm, the PbS SA was characterized by the modulation depth of 10.69%, the non-saturable loss of 74.27%, and the saturable peak intensity of 8.62 MW/cm2, respectively. The laser delivered stable conventional soliton with a pulse duration of 1.24 ps and a repetition rate of 21.93 MHz. The center wavelength and 3 dB bandwidth are 1957.37 nm and 3.43 nm, respectively. Additionally, the second-order harmonic soliton pulses with a repetition rate of 43.86 MHz were also observed by further increasing the pump power. Our work reveals that PbS material is a reliable SA applied for pulse generation in the 2 μm spectral region.
