  • Ultracompact and dynamically tunable plasmonic THz switch based on graphene microcavity metamaterial

    摘要: We propose and discuss a compact and tunable plasmonic terahertz (THz) metamaterial switch based on graphene micro-cavity. Due to the joint effect of graphene plasmon resonances and Fabry–Perot oscillations, this metamaterial structure can be switched from the ON state to OFF state with the maximum intensity attenuation larger than 95% (ON–OFF ratio larger than 30 dB). The central frequency of the switch could be tuned in a wide frequency range from 3.6 to 9.6 THz by tuning the Fermi energies of the graphene patterns. Moreover, the metamaterial structure is valid for a wide range of incident angles of both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) polarizations with the highest Q factor of 15.5. This investigation promises the development of high-performance, widely tunable THz switch in chip integrated photonic circuits without reconstructing the physical structures.

    摘要: Wide band, insensitive incidence angle graphene metasurface for polarization conversion is introduced in this work. A high Polarization Conversion Ratio (PCR) is verified in Mid-Infrared band by using a graphene as an upper conductor for metasurface. The metasurface construction is composed of a single layer of graphene, which has a half ring slots with rectangular slot connecting between them while the whole shape is rotated with 45o. Silicon dioxide substrate is used with a metal backed ground. The simulation results of the proposed metasurface indicate that a linearly polarized incident wave is converted to a circular polarized one over more than one THz along the Mid-Infrared frequency band. PCR has a maximum value of approximately 98% at 1.45 THz. The polarization conversion ratio is studied for different angles of incidence, with stable value for a wide range of incident angles.

  • Graphene-Based Biosensors for Detection of Composite Vibrational Fingerprints in the Mid-Infrared Region

    摘要: In this study, a label-free multi-resonant graphene-based biosensor with periodic graphene nanoribbons is proposed for detection of composite vibrational ?ngerprints in the mid-infrared range. The multiple vibrational signals of biomolecules are simultaneously enhanced and detected by di?erent resonances in the transmission spectrum. Each of the transmission dips can be independently tuned by altering the gating voltage applied on the corresponding graphene nanoribbon. Geometric parameters are investigated and optimized to obtain excellent sensing performance. Limit of detection is also evaluated in an approximation way. Besides, the biosensor can operate in a wide range of incident angles. Electric ?eld intensity distributions are depicted to reveal the physical insight. Moreover, another biosensor based on periodic graphene nanodisks is further proposed, whose performance is insensitive to the polarization of incidence. Our research may have a potential for designing graphene-based biosensor used in many promising bioanalytical and pharmaceutical applications.
