  • Experimental analysis and designing strategies of lens-less microscopy with partially coherent illumination

    摘要: Lens-less microscopy can achieve a wide field of view imaging (FOV) through a simple configuration compared to conventional microscopy, and it’s very attractive in resource-limited areas because of its cost-effectiveness and portability. Featuring a small package and cheapness, LEDs and LDs both show the potential to act as a reasonable illumination source for lens-less microscopes, especially for portable ones. However, based on holographic theorem, the complex light-field reconstruction algorithms consider the light source as a highly coherent one, while both LEDs and LDs can only provide partially coherent illumination. In this manuscript, we would systematically and experimentally analyze the imaging performances of lens-less microscopy with partially coherent illumination. The analysis covers autofocusing under LED/LD illumination, imaging performances under different LED spatial coherence and imaging performances under LED/LD illumination. Furthermore, based on the analysis, some conclusions about designing a lens-less microscope are presented. We think that the experiments and conclusions can provide effective guidance to construct a low-cost lens-less microscope with trade-off hardware parameters in practices.

  • Resolution-enhanced imaging using interferenceless coded aperture correlation holography with sparse point response

    摘要: interferenceless coded aperture correlation holography (i-coAcH) is a non-scanning, motionless, incoherent digital holography technique. in this study we use a special type of i-coAcH in which its point spread hologram (pSH) is ensemble of sparse dots. With this pSH an imaging resolution beyond the classic diffraction limit is demonstrated. This resolution improvement is achieved due to the position of the coded aperture between the object and the lens-based imaging system. the coded aperture scatters part of the light, that otherwise is blocked by the system aperture, into the optical system, and by doing that, extends the effective numerical aperture of the system. The use of sparse PSH increases the signal-to-noise ratio of the entire imaging system. A lateral resolution enhancement by a factor of about 1.6 was noted in the case of I-COACH compared to direct imaging.

  • Three-dimensional measurement of Mg dopant distribution and electrical activity in GaN by correlative atom probe tomography and off-axis electron holography

    摘要: The distribution and electrical activity of p-type doping (Mg) in gallium nitride (GaN) grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition was investigated by correlating atom probe tomography (APT) and off-axis electron holography. APT results revealed that high Mg concentrations promote the formation of Mg-rich clusters. This is associated with the formation of pyramidal inversion domains (PIDs). The direct measurement of the doping concentration outside the clusters provided by APT suggests a saturation in the p-type electrical activity for Mg concentrations above 7 × 1019 cm?3. Maps of the electrostatic potential provided by off-axis electron holography confirm that the highest carrier concentration was achieved in the regions with the highest dopant concentration of 2 × 1020 cm?3, despite the presence of a high density of Mg-rich clusters revealed by APT. The correlation of these techniques suggests that PIDs are not the major cause of the reduction in electrostatic potential.

  • Deep inelastic scattering on a nucleus using holography

    摘要: We consider deep inelastic scattering (DIS) on a nucleus described using a density expansion. In leading order, the scattering is dominated by the incoherent scattering on individual nucleons distributed using the Thomas-Fermi approximation. We use the holographic structure functions for DIS scattering on single nucleons to make a nonperturbative estimate of the nuclear structure function in leading order in the density. Our results are compared to the fits from data in the large-x regime.

  • Microfluidic shear rheology and wall-slip of viscoelastic fluids using holography-based flow kinematics

    摘要: In this study, we report microfluidic shear rheology and wall-slip using the 3D-resolved flow kinematics obtained from digital holography microscopy (DHM). We computationally reconstruct the recorded holograms to visualize the tracer imbued flow volume in linear microchannels, followed by the implementation of particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) to quantitate spatially resolved velocity fields in 3D. In order to select optimal parameters for DHM-PTV characterization of viscoelastic fluids, we studied the effect of the hologram recording distance, seeding density, and particle size. Using the optimal parameters, we show quantitative characterization of the shear rheology from the velocity fields without any a priori assumptions of wall boundary conditions or constitutive equation. The viscosity vs shear rate data for Newtonian and polyethylene oxide (PEO) solutions could be measured in the range of ≈0.05 to 20 000 s?1 with just three input pressures using sample volumes as low as 20 μl. These data from holographic shear rheometry were found to be in good agreement with computational fluid dynamics simulations and macrorheometry. With respect to the wall-slip, we find that highly viscoelastic PEO solutions can show slip lengths in the order of few microns. Finally, we discuss holographic visualization of particle migration in microfluidic flows, which can limit flow field access, whereas at the same time provide a fingerprint of the suspending fluid rheology.

  • Application of Infrared Digital Holography for Characterization of Inhomogeneities and Voluminous Defects of Single Crystals on the Example of ZnGeP2

    摘要: In this work, the method of IR digital holography intended for detection of volumetric defects in ZnGeP2 single crystals has been tested. The holographic method is veri?ed by a comparison of the results obtained with the data obtained by other methods. The spatial resolution of the experimental setup is ~15–20 μm. The volumetric defects of the ZnGeP2 crystal structure (in samples with thickness up to 50 mm) such as growth striations, dislocation chain, and inclusions of the second phase (Zn3P2) shaped as needles up to ~100 μm long and ~10 μm wide have been visualized by the method of IR digital holography.

  • Three-dimensional vectorial holography based on machine learning inverse design

    摘要: The three-dimensional (3D) vectorial nature of electromagnetic waves of light has not only played a fundamental role in science but also driven disruptive applications in optical display, microscopy, and manipulation. However, conventional optical holography can address only the amplitude and phase information of an optical beam, leaving the 3D vectorial feature of light completely inaccessible. We demonstrate 3D vectorial holography where an arbitrary 3D vectorial field distribution on a wavefront can be precisely reconstructed using the machine learning inverse design based on multilayer perceptron artificial neural networks. This 3D vectorial holography allows the lensless reconstruction of a 3D vectorial holographic image with an ultrawide viewing angle of 94° and a high diffraction efficiency of 78%, necessary for floating displays. The results provide an artificial intelligence–enabled holographic paradigm for harnessing the vectorial nature of light, enabling new machine learning strategies for holographic 3D vectorial fields multiplexing in display and encryption.

  • In-Line Holography in Transmission Electron Microscopy for the Atomic Resolution Imaging of Single Particle of Radiation-Sensitive Matter

    摘要: In this paper, for the first time it is shown how in-line holography in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) enables the study of radiation-sensitive nanoparticles of organic and inorganic materials providing high-contrast holograms of single nanoparticles, while illuminating specimens with a density of current as low as 1–2 e???2s?1. This provides a powerful method for true single-particle atomic resolution imaging and opens up new perspectives for the study of soft matter in biology and materials science. The approach is not limited to a particular class of TEM specimens, such as homogenous samples or samples specially designed for a particular TEM experiment, but has better application in the study of those specimens with differences in shape, chemical composition, crystallography, and orientation, which cannot be currently addressed at atomic resolution.

  • Optical Fiber Applications || Optical Fibers Profiling Using Interferometric and Digital Holographic Methods

    摘要: Optical fibers are extensively used in modern technology such as sensing, short-distance and long-distance telecommunications. This motivated many researchers to present different methods in order to characterize optical fibers and determine their refractive index profiles. In addition, variation of refractive index profiles of optical fibers suffering mechanical stresses or other external effects reflects good information about the internal structure of these fibers and how they are responding to these external effects. Optical interferometry and digital holography methods are accurate and effective tools used to achieve this task. In this chapter, we illustrate the application of different types of optical interference on conventional, polarizing maintaining and thick optical fibers. Also, we illustrate some mathematical interpretations (and recently automatic analyzing of interference patterns) that have been used to reconstruct the accurate refractive index profiles of optical fibers. Some experimental interferograms and refractive index profiles are demonstrated as well.

    摘要: We describe a new radio holography method of the RATAN-600 radio telescope antenna diagnosis and adjustment, using the radial movement of the reference panel. We present the results of geometric optical ray tracing of the “South + Flat” antenna system in the autocollimation mode and radio optical modeling of the hologram recording and field reconstruction procedure, taking noise into account. Estimates for necessary isolation and acceptable spatial separation between transmitting and receiving feeds, geometrical tolerances, and requirements to the reference panel motion control are discussed. The experimental results of the method application to the diagnosis of radial errors in the positioning of panels of the RATAN-600 main mirror are reported.
