    摘要: Segmentation of partially overlapping objects with a known shape is needed in an increasing amount of various machine vision applications. This paper presents a method for segmentation of clustered partially overlapping objects with a shape that can be approximated using an ellipse. The method utilizes silhouette images, which means that it requires only that the foreground (objects) and background can be distinguished from each other. The method starts with seedpoint extraction using bounded erosion and fast radial symmetry transform. Extracted seedpoints are then utilized to associate edge points to objects in order to create contour evidence. Finally, contours of the objects are estimated by fitting ellipses to the contour evidence. The experiments on one synthetic and two different real data sets showed that the proposed method outperforms two current state-of-art approaches in overlapping objects segmentation.

  • Design of a laser-based autofocusing microscope for a sample with a transparent boundary layer

    摘要: This study proposes a new type of autofocusing microscope. The microscope was combined with a polarized beam-splitting system and an image-processing program to overcome the complex signals generated when focusing on a transparent boundary layer. The polarized beam-splitting system divides a source laser beam into four parallel beams using a birefringent crystal. It also uses an axicon lens to focus individually on different positions of the sample surface when light is incident on the objective lens to observe multiple-spot defocusing information simultaneously. The transparent boundary layer exhibits intricate signals when a sensor detects laser spots. Therefore, an image-processing program is proposed to filter unnecessary signals for calculating the evaluation function and driving the motor, which enables a focused view of the test sample to be attained conveniently. To prove the feasibility of the proposed autofocusing microscope, a frame was developed using a simulation software for observing the initial characteristics of the microscope and for conducting a qualitative analysis. Moreover, the image-processing effect on the sample was tested to determine whether the aim of the study was achieved. The experimental results matched suitably with the simulation results, which indicates that the proposed autofocusing microscope can solve the problem caused by the transparent boundary layer and can achieve a high focusing accuracy within a short focusing time.

    摘要: This paper describes the design, development and testing of an AR system that was developed for aerospace and ground vehicles to meet stringent accuracy and robustness requirements. The system uses an optical see-through HMD, and thus requires extremely low latency, high tracking accuracy and precision alignment and calibration of all subsystems in order to avoid mis-registration and “swim”. The paper focuses on the optical/inertial hybrid tracking system and describes novel solutions to the challenges with the optics, algorithms, synchronization, and alignment with the vehicle and HMD systems. Tracker accuracy is presented with simulation results to predict the registration accuracy. A car test is used to create a through-the-eyepiece video demonstrating well-registered augmentations of the road and nearby structures while driving. Finally, a detailed covariance analysis of AR registration error is derived.

    摘要: Coastlines, shoals, and reefs are some of the most dynamic and constantly changing regions of the globe. The emergence of high-resolution satellites with new spectral channels, such as the WorldView-2, increases the amount of data available, thereby improving the determination of coastal management parameters. Water-leaving radiance is very difficult to determine accurately, since it is often small compared to the reflected radiance from other sources such as atmospheric and water surface scattering. Hence, the atmospheric correction has proven to be a very important step in the processing of high-resolution images for coastal applications. On the other hand, specular reflection of solar radiation on nonflat water surfaces is a serious confounding factor for bathymetry and for obtaining the seafloor albedo with high precision in shallow-water environments. This paper describes, at first, an optimal atmospheric correction model, as well as an improved algorithm for sunglint removal based on combined physical and image processing techniques. Then, using the corrected multispectral data, an efficient multichannel physics-based algorithm has been implemented, which is capable of solving through optimization the radiative transfer model of seawater for bathymetry retrieval, unmixing the water intrinsic optical properties, depth, and seafloor albedo contributions. Finally, for the mapping of benthic features, a supervised classification methodology has been implemented, combining seafloor-type normalized indexes and support vector machine techniques. Results of atmospheric correction, remote bathymetry, and benthic habitat mapping of shallow-water environments have been validated with in situ data and available bionomic profiles providing excellent accuracy.

    摘要: In the last several years, laser based material processing has established itself in many industrial branches as an economical manufacturing process. Laser remote cutting in particular is widespread in the automotive sector. In order to take full advantage of laser remote cutting, it is necessary to position the laser beam precisely on the workpiece using a handling kinematic system. Therefore, this work focuses on the combination of standard industrial robots with laser scanner optics. To address this configuration, this paper proposes a method for the calibration of the parameters, which describe the precise position of the 3D laser scanner optics in respect to the robot. Moreover, the robot introduces a new source of deviation, which is then compensated by using an external measuring system to guide the scanner optics during processing.

We fit a function to the intensity profile of the image of a silicon beam that was captured with a CCD camera on an optical microscope. The position resolution depends on the amount of pixel noise and on how the moving feature is spread across the detector pixels. The resolution is usually limited by photon shot noise, which can be controlled and lowered in several ways. To demonstrate the technique we measure the adhesion snap-off of two silicon surfaces. We assess the accuracy of the technique using two different silicon MEMS devices and an experimental ultrananocrystalline diamond device. The lowest position noise that we report is obtained by summing 1 577 image lines and is as low as 60 pm [2014-0040] root mean square.
