    摘要: While electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) and electrical impedance tomography (EIT) have found many successful industrial applications, only recently, research into medical applications of ECT and EIT were carried out at University of Manchester and Chiba University, including (1) Visualization of tooth surface by ECT for tooth canal treatment, (2) Visualization by ECT and EIT for revision hip replacement surgery, (3) Microfluidics for cell sensing and manipulation, (4) Imaging clots in blood flows and (5) Non-intrusive diagnosis of lymph problems. This paper will review the above medical applications of electrical tomography, from necessity of the work or problems to be addressed, sensing principles, experiment arrangement to some initial results. In addition, other research related to medical application of electrical tomography will also be briefly reviewed, such as by Swisstom AG in Switzerland, Dartmouth College in USA and some universities in China.

  • Charge transport layers manage mobility and Carrier density balance in light-emitting layers influencing the operational stability of organic light emitting diodes

    摘要: Organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) consist of several organic layers, including the charge injection layer, charge transport layer, and light emitting layer (EML). Of these layers, the charge transport layer is crucial for ensuring device longevity, but its overall effects on charge transport and corresponding device stability are poorly understood. Herein we report the factors influencing differences in lifetime between two OLEDs with different hole transporting layers (HTLs). Comprehensive electrical analysis of the materials and the devices reveals that the mobility, accumulation, trapping, and the transport path of holes in the EML are totally changed by the HTLs. The charge transport layers affect mobility and carrier density balance in the EML through the modification of the charge transport path and the energetic barrier. This results in a reduction of overbalanced polaron density, which is critical for bond dissociation in excitonic interactions. Consequently, device lifetime is increased sevenfold through modification of the HTL structure without any alteration of the EML. These results imply that the analysis of polaronic transport through impedance spectroscopy is a crucial step in determining the requisite electrical properties for charge transport layers, with a view to maximizing the operational stability of OLEDs.

    摘要: In this paper, we present a technique for the synthesis of zinc oxide nanorods and the study of their sensitivity to organic solvent vapors. Zinc oxide nanorods were synthesized by hydrothermal method. Investigation of gas-sensitive properties was carried out by the method of impedance spectroscopy. Studies of gas-sensitive properties of zinc oxide showed a significant response of the system to the vapor of reducing gases at room temperature. It is shown that the thickness of the seed layer and, correspondingly, the density of the structure on the basis of ZnO nanorods, strongly affect the sensitivity of the sensor.

  • UHF Reader Antenna for Near and Far-Field RFID Operation

    摘要: In order to detect the RFID tags kept inside an enclosure, the reader antenna can couple energy into another antenna kept in the near-field region. To detect the tags placed in the far-field, the reader antenna should have a good gain. Usually, these two requirements compete with each other due to the effect of coupling on the frequency of operation of the antenna system. In this work modification to a loop antenna is proposed such that it can operate in both near and far-field. Loop antenna with high impedance surface (HIS) reflector results in a low-profile antenna pair where both the antennas can interchangeably operate in near-field and far-field, with their operating frequency band independent of the spacing between the antennas. The performance of the proposed antennas is compared with that of several other antennas by measuring the read range of RFID tags. It is found that the proposed antennas perform better in comparison with the other antennas when detecting the tags placed inside an enclosure. When operating as a far-field antenna, their performance is very close to that of a conventional RFID reader antenna which is optimized only for far-field operation.

  • Structural, optical, and dielectric studies of LaFe1?xMoxO3 (x?=?0.0, 0.5) perovskite materials

    摘要: The structural, optical, and dielectric properties of LaFe1?xMoxO3 (x = 0.0, 0.5) synthesized by the sol–gel method were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering, and impedance spectroscopy. XRD analysis revealed that the x = 0.5 compound is single-phase and orthorhombic, with space group Pbnm, similar to the parent x = 0.0 compound but with larger lattice parameters and/or a larger unit-cell volume. The Raman scattering spectra revealed local lattice distortions in the x = 0.5 compound and spin–phonon coupling related to the magnetic transition (Néel) temperature. The impedance data were well fitted with an R(R1-CPE1)//(R2-CPE2) equivalent electrical circuit, demonstrating the contributions of both grains and grain boundaries. The temperature (300–500 K) and frequency (100 Hz–1 MHz) dependences of the dielectric properties showed that Mo substitution adversely affected the dielectric parameters.

  • Point defect chemistry of donor-doped bismuth titanate ceramic

    摘要: This communication reports on the defect chemistry at room temperature of barium (Ba) doped bismuth titanate (Bi4Ti3O12), emphasizing the influence of the point defects on its electrical properties. Pure and Ba doped Bi4Ti3O12 were prepared by a conventional solid-phase reaction technique. The addition of Ba into the crystal structure of Bi4Ti3O12 was monitored by X-ray diffraction measurements combined with Rietveld refinement studies where it was determined that Ba occupies the bismuth (Bi) lattice sites as well as the presence of oxygen vacancies (V??O). The characterization of the point defects was carried out using impedance and electron spin resonance spectroscopies where the results support the models of compensation mechanisms dominated by electrical positive charges (h?) and oxygen vacancies (V??O).
