Understanding Lateral Marsh Edge Erosion with Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS)
摘要: Coastal wetlands are a crucial buffer zone between land and sea but lateral erosion threatens their long-term sustainability. Better understanding of the forces leading to lateral marsh retreat will benefit the assessment of management options applied to mitigate the erosion. Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS), Light Detection and Ranging (lidar), and associated technologies are increasingly being used to assess this erosion. The central objective of this study was to identify a methodology for measuring marsh edge erosion with a TLS and correlate that erosion with exposed roots and incident wave energy. We quantified edge erosion across multiple temporal and spatial scales using a TLS, showing greater than one meter of lateral erosion over a 318-day period. We then evaluated the relationships between the erosion and incident wave energy along with erosion and vegetation roots. Wave height and erosion was strongly related (r2 = 0.99), while vegetation roots did not show an apparent effect. We discuss the challenges that arise from using TLS equipment, TLS data sets, and the use of voxels to measure marsh edge erosion.

3D laser scanning and close-range photogrammetry for buildings documentation: A hybrid technique towards a better accuracy
摘要: This paper presents a study of 3D digital documentation techniques for the mosque of kafrelsheikh University campus namely: Close Range Photogrammetry as a digital smart point cloud mesh production in comparison with laser scanning as an attempt to achieve a hybrid formulation as an improved technique for execute more accurate 3d features documentation, also CRP as measuring technique in comparison with the traditional technique which is total station. The total station was used to survey the geometry properties of the building surface which considered as a base in this study, in computational methods and operation ?elds have been illustrated in the manuscript. The hybrid technique showed the optimum achieved accuracy for 3D digital documentation which has been established based on measuring scanned values, for example the enhancement obtained in accuracy reached its submit in hybrid technique by (80.1, 66.4, and 84.2)% when surveying features point coordinates, lines, and angles, respectively based on a comparative study, the hybrid technique is recommended for surveying instead of traditional ones.

Mobile Laser Scanning for Estimating Tree Stem Diameter Using Segmentation and Tree Spine Calibration
摘要: Mobile laser scanning (MLS) could make forest inventories more efficient, by using algorithms that automatically derive tree stem center positions and stem diameters. In this work we present a novel method for calibration of the position for laser returns based on tree spines derived from laser data. A first calibration of positions was made for sequential laser scans and further calibrations of laser returns were possible after segmentation, in which laser returns were associated to individual tree stems. The segmentation made it possible to model tree stem spines (i.e., center line of tree stems). Assumptions of coherent tree spine positions were used for correcting laser return positions on the tree stems, thereby improving estimation of stem profiles (i.e., stem diameters at different heights from the ground level). The method was validated on six 20-m radius field plots. Stem diameters were estimated with a Root-Mean-Square-Error (RMSE) of 1 cm for safely linked trees (maximum link distance of 0.5 m) and with a restriction of a minimum amount of data from height intervals for supporting circle estimates. The accuracy was high for plot level estimates of basal area-weighted mean stem diameter (relative RMSE 3.4%) and basal area (relative RMSE 8.5%) because of little influence of small trees (i.e., aggregation of individual trees). The spine calibration made it possible to derive 3D stem profiles also from 3D laser data calculated from sensor positions with large errors because of disturbed below canopy signals from global navigation satellite systems.

[IEEE 2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA) - PATRAS, Greece (2019.7.15-2019.7.17)] 2019 10th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA) - Enchancing SLAM method for mapping and tracking using a low cost laser scanner
摘要: This paper presents a SLAM technique that does not use odometer information. It is based on HECTOR SLAM method from Technische Universitat of Darmstadt, but using a different hardware from the proposed and finally without the use of IMU device. The method is based on modified settings of the HECTOR SLAM method and manages to optimize the method based on COTS hardware.

Precise measurement of 3D-position of SiPMs in the liquid xenon gamma-ray detector for the MEGII experiment
摘要: We developed two complementary ways to measure the position of SiPMs inside liquid xenon detector for MEGII experiment; one uses laser tools and the other uses an X-ray beam. We measured the position of all SiPMs to an accuracy of 320 μm.
